$ Enron The Smartest Guys in the Room Blu ray

This is the best documentary I've seen so far -- well written, directed, and executed. There was never a dull moment in this film. I can enjoy watching this documentary because I didn't loose any money with Enron, but I do feel badly for thousands of people who did - their entire savings, retirement pensions, all gone.



This DVD is rated R for a reason. There's nudity and curses. One of the most disturbing scenes for me was listening to the Enron traders' taped conversation about the suffering the people of California was going through - blackouts (and there were several of them) artificially created by Enron:



"Yeah, now she wants her fxxxing money back for all the power you've charged right up, jammed right up her axx for fxxxing $250 a megawatt hour!"



By creating this energy shortage, Enron reeled in BILLIONS of dollars from the people of California. If that's not extortion, I don't know what is. Just to show you, terrorists don't always wear turbans. They also wear designer suits.

This is a limited review.



It's a TV mini series (as what I believed), as being a Canadian production. The plot was what my titled suggested. In terms of actions, there were decent dosages. As what other reviewers said, if you like the Bourne series, you will like this show.



As for suspense, generally the predictability of the show is there. There may be 1 or 2 minor unknowns, as the viewers were led to uncover the plots and identities of the "anarchy team".



As it's a non-American production, I like to add the film tried to show via its characters, different types/classes of patriots. There were the genuine patriots, who valued the choice of the people and would bite a bullet to defend the system. There were the mis-guided lofty patriots who thought that their high ideals and approaches were the best solutions for the people and had to be imposed for "forced-sold" to them.



Moving on to the real world, we have to add, the lip-served patriots, the self-serving chickenhawks who waved the flag, compromised the nation's interest who advancing their personal ones. This is the moral/ethics dimension that the flim tried to draw the audience to, while its remained a fairly predictably show.



I give a 3 stars. If you choose to watch it to pass a lazy weekend afternoon, you will not regret watching it. It has all the decent actions, though it was a TV miniseries.

With this set you get two dvds. One regular version and one 3D one. I bought this for my little cousin who is 4 and big fan.



The regular dvd, we put it on for my little cousin and she really liked it. She danced and sang along with it. The dvd keeps her entertained and she asks to watch it all the time. I think she would watch it everyday. It's what I would expect from a concert DVD.



The 3D one, I think a four year old is too young to understand this. The 3D glass are the red and blue ones. The don't stay on when she is dancing around or she pulls them off. Then when the glasses are off the image has the 3D blur. I think it would take a couple of years for her to understand and enjoy it.

I was initially hesitant to purchase this blu-ray disk of Destiny's Child because for a baby boomer I was not sure this is for me. But there isn't enough of what I want out there yet on blu-ray so I took a chance and ordered it. Alas, it's excellent in performance, not to mention superb video and audio quality. Yes, this is a concert for my children's generation (there is some dirty dancing) but who wouldn't want the Halle Berrys of the world on his arm? We need some of those to draw us out of our shells now and again. Much effort went into the staging of this concert and the result is an excellent disk. Go for it.

The first time I saw this was in a local theater during a re-release sometime in the 1950's, I think. This was before it became a perennial favorite on TV. I bought it (much later) on Laserdisc which was pretty well done for its time. The first DVD issue was a complete misfire from the standpoint of video quality. The second was very good. The third DVD issue, I didn't bother with. The Blu-ray is quite stunning and although in some shots a certain amount of grain is visible, which is to be expected, the over-all impression is delightful. More than ever, you can now clearly see where the sets end and the painted back-drops begin, but, at the same time, the artistic and technical genius that went into this picture is more obvious. The great video quality notwithstanding, I was most pleased by the improvement in the audio quality of this issue. For a soundtrack originally recorded in the late 1930's, it's pretty impressive.



I was glad that the audio feature called "Jukebox" was included consisting of test recordings and various takes for different musical parts of the movie. You get the impression that in those days there was little allowance for wasted time during recording sessions. After a take with only the orchestra, the conductor says: "That stinks! Come on, stay on your toes boys. Let's watch it!" It also becomes clear as to how the speeded up voices for the Munchkins could be combined with the orchestra playing in its standard pitch. Not an easy task in a time when magnetic tape was not yet available.



Overall an excellent presentation of a brilliant film.

I know I didn't direct this, but if I could "enhance" it any, I would add more footage of plane time. I bought this for my son's 3rd birthday, as he emerges into a fan on airplanes. He loved the film. As a guy in his mid 30's...it would not be for me as it was a bit too cheesy of a documentary.

The cinematography is amazing. The views from the air are fantastic. The CGI...not so much. For a three year old boy...it is almost like being there.

Well, the dialogue is down right corny and the actual "in cockpit" footage isn't all that great given the fact that this is supposed to be about pilots and their machines, the fact of the matter is, if you loved Top Gun when it first took flight back in the 80's it's all the more reason to see this in HiDef. The sound track in any set up outside of plain stereo is great and the sounds of the jet engines swooshing by you from front to back and left to right and so on is just booming. I could do without the sausage fest of the volleyball scene but that was the hook for the female crowd. I could do with more flight scenes and fight footage but I didn't write the script. The videos of the songs are a nice inclusion, too.

The only thing I knew about this movie before watching it was that it was based on true events and it involved police abuse of a mother looking for her missing child.



Single mother comes home from work in 1928 to find her son missing. First the police make her wait 24 hours before they will take her report, then after months they try to make her accept that a boy 3 to 4 inches shorter than her son is her son, who has shrunk from the trauma of the events. She points out several other discrepencies and when she becomes too much trouble they have her locked up in a hospital ward that must have employed half the sadist in LA at the time.



Jolie was good in this role (I am not usually a fan of hers but she did a really good job in this film.) I kept hoping Walter would come home so I was thrown by a loop when they brought up the killings at the ranch (I had never heard of them before.)



If you like your movies filled with twists in the plot line, suspense, and a bit of true crime thrown in this is one for you.

#% Last Action Hero Blu ray

Granted, LAST ACTION HERO (1993) is probably aimed at pre-teen boys, yet it's a personal favorite. I'm one of this film's loyal fans.



At the time it was making the theatrical rounds I worked at Sears Brand Central in their electronics division. We had a dedicated laser disc player that repeated every 30 minutes a selection of movie promos, plus Sears and other commercials. These discs were changed monthly.



For a couple of cycles, "Last Action Hero" was a featured item. The ad included some fine concert footage of AC/DC's "Big Gun." A portion of this track opens the picture's final credit scroll. Arnold appears in character during the Sears video while Angus Young does his famous schoolboy prance on stage.



The soundtrack of LAST ACTION HERO is a metal or rocker fan's delight. It includes cuts by Alice in Chains, Megadeath, Fishbone, Def Leppard, Anthrax, Cypress Hill, Queensryche and Aerosmith. Tesla has the title track.



The reason I'm particularly fond of this one is its references to classic movies, including Hamlet, in a fab b&w scene where Arnold as a grungy machine gun packing Dane says, "To be or not to be" and lights a bomb off his stogie. He tosses the TNT. Big explosion behind him and then a drolly given, "Not to be" ends the sequence.



Best of all is Ian McKellen's take on the Grim Reaper from Ingmar Bergman's THE SEVENTH SEAL (1957). Honorable mention to Tom Noonan's horribly scarred axe-wielding villain. He and Arnold play dual roles: themselves the actors and their action film characters.



It's a great concept: young Austin O'Brien (as Danny Madigan) steps into a movie and then he and other fictional characters cross back into the real world. That L.A. police station on the other side of the screen is great. We also get a holographic glimpse here of Arnold's Terminator foe in cop drag, and Danny DeVito provides the voice of 'Whiskers,' a cartoon cat detective. Also here, Austin/Danny I.D.s a confused F. Murray Abraham as Mozart's killer (remember AMADEUS?).



At the video store, Sylvester Stallone is seen on a lifesize cardboard stand up display as THE TERMINATOR. Jack Slater (Arnold) raves about how good Sly is in the role to a shocked Danny. It's too funny! Oh, and other bad puns, like when Slater kills a villain with an ice cream stuck in the eyeball, he quips: "Iced that guy... to cone a phrase!"



Yes, I've seen LAST ACTION HERO many times and will many more!

Can you even imagine having such a gift that not even deafness could silence it? That such beauty was given to us by someone who suffered so much is amazing. Gary Oldman is brilliant. The score is brilliant. I can watch it again and again. This is a must buy.

The effects are great, the acting is about what you'd expect, the story's a zero. If you have something that has to be done and you've already used up all the good excuses, uncork a jug of (cheap)wine, get out the chips and dip and ask wifey if she'd like to take a break from her hard labour.



If you remember what a disappointment Erwin Allen movies always were and how you somehow sat thru them anyway, you know what you're in for.

Like Irwin Allen, there was enough money to make this turkey pleasent to watch, there is some good acting, but whenever logic gets in the way of plot, forget the logic.

Am I the only one who noticed that they've edited this film? Just so we're clear, I LOVE this movie; I'm pretty obsessive about it. I've seen it 8 times in the theater (6 when it first came out) and own every single edition on every media platform, including PSP and iTunes. So when I finally sat down to watch the Blu-Ray edition, i noticed pretty quickly that they've changed the dialogue; Jen suddenly speaks a line in Aughra's laboratory that I've never heard.



Between this and the edited editions of Erik The Viking and The Last Unicorn, I'm wondering how much of my childhood is left intact. Shame on whoever decided to alter history. It wasn't necessary and this is not what I paid for.
