COLDPLAY - BRITISH ALTERNATIVE ROCK BAND POSTER (22X34)

The term Ballroom Dancing is the most general and the oldest term that is used to describe formal dances and generally includes Waltz, Tango, Slow Foxtrot, Quickstep and Viennese Waltz dances as well as some of the Latin dances. There two types of waltz in this group, the Classic Waltz and the Viennese Waltz.

The Classic Waltz is known as the mother of dances as it was the first dance where people actually danced in front of each other. This made it a very exciting dance when it was first introduced. It is based on an 18th century Austrian folk-dance and the steps are based on a box step with a rotary motion. The Classic Waltz, or the 'slow' or 'English' Waltz as it is sometimes called, is known for a gliding motion with a slight rise and fall and is normally danced to a slow tempo which requires a large degree of control to dance well.

The Viennese Waltz on the other hand is elegant and beautiful to watch. It is sometimes seen in movies and even Disney cartoons! As the name suggests it is linked to Vienna where the Aristocracy danced the Viennese Waltz to music by Strauss and other classical composers. The Viennese Waltz is a faster movement than the Classical Waltz, and is danced at about 180 beats (58-60 measures) a minute, as opposed to about 90 beats per minute with 3 beats to the bar for the Classical Waltz.

The Viennese Waltz is a rotary motion where the dancers are constantly turning either in a clockwise (natural) or anti-clockwise (reverse) direction. This is interspersed with non-rotating change steps to switch between the directions of rotation. Furthermore, in a properly danced Viennese Waltz, couples do not pass, but turn continuously left and right while they travel counterclockwise around the floor following each other in procession. Although this dance is still danced on social occasions, it is more usual for the Classical Waltz to be used.

In the Standard dances such as the waltzes, men traditionally wear formal coat-tails, vests or waistcoats, and bow ties. Women wear elegant and colorful gowns, often with sheer fabric draped from the shoulders or arms. Partners remain in closed position facing each other, throughout the dance, and movements tend to be elegant and sweeping.

American Smooth allows more open work where the partners can separate from each other and dance in open positions. American Smooth can be best described as a variation of ballroom dancing with an enhanced range of movements and exciting steps. All basic principles and the technique of ballroom dancing still apply, however partners are not required to maintain a continuous body contact. The removal of the body contact restriction allows the dancers to perform a variety of new steps such as: lady under arm turns, spins, side by side positions, parallel turns, dips, drops and other variations that would never be allowed in the traditional ballroom dancing.

The term 'Ballroom' has been used to describe Waltz, Tango, Slow Foxtrot, Quickstep and Viennese Waltz as a group of dances together with a range of Latin dances such as the Rumba, Quickstep and Cha-Cha-Cha. Ballroom dances may have at one time also included historical dances like Minuet, Quadrille, Polonaise, Pas de Gras, and Mazurka. However there was no standard definition and so as different dances were introduced new terms were introduced to differentiate these. "Modern Ballroom" (in short "Modern"), was introduced in Britain to referring to Old Time, Sequence or Latin-American dances.

But in Europe the term "Modern" was already frequently used to describe a totally different type of dancing (eg. jazz or other form of solo dancing), so the term Standard was introduced instead. But "Standard" had an unclear meaning in America, where there is an American version of it called American Smooth. Therefore American's introduced the term "International Standard" to make the difference clear.

In spite of its historical image as a pastime for the privileged; formal competitions, sometimes referred to as DanceSport, allow participation by less advanced dancers at various proficiency levels. In the United States, amateur dance proficiency levels are defined by USA Dance (formerly United States Amateur Ballroom Dance Association,) The International Olympic Committee now recognizes competitive ballroom dance. It is doubtful that it will be included as an official sport in the Olympic Games especially in light of efforts to reduce the number of offerings, but the application has not been permanently rejected.

Of all of the dances, the Waltz is the perfect one to learn first. It can be learnt in a few minutes and yet can take a lifetime to master.

Customer Review: good but some disappointment
dance steps are fine and not too difficult but steps are done to a percussion beat rather than to tunes and real latin music. I really prefer music and so this doesn't feel like dancing, just exercising, and therefore isn't as much fun.
Customer Review: Not what I expected !!
I am a fan of salsa music and i thought that this dvd would be fun to try and put in a part of my work outs. The instructor was just wayyyy too much. too loud , too hyper. she came off very corny at times. lol. the video is just dumb. i dont know ,i just found her annoying. The music was good and all but i just cant take her. I dont do this video often. Once in a blue. It really wasnt as good as thought it was gonna be. i have other crunch video but come on now. they need better instructors.

Are you a techno chick who wants to turn your bedroom into a dancing platform? Okay, it might not always be possible to do so; however do check out some of the interesting ways on how to use free DJ sound effects to make your websites, blogs and MySpace profile a dancing platform for your site visitors.

Looking for brilliant ideas for using free DJ sound effects? Help is here. You might have always wanted the heart-thumping track that you heard the other day from the club. Well, now you can have it and conveniently embed it into your website.

The trick to using free DJ sound effects is to get one that you can tweak and edit such that you can make your very own dance track. Since dance tracks usually consist of repetitions and mostly sound effects, it would be interesting if you are able to use your creative juices and make full use of the DJ sound effects to make your very own masterpiece.

What you can do is to first grab as many DJ sound effects as possible. You might have thoughts of using Kazaa or Limewire to illegally download these DJ sound effects, but my advice to you is not to do so. This is firstly because the illegal downloading of tracks is wrong, and that you are increasing your chances of getting in trouble with the law. Secondly, peer-2-peer (P2P) network sites, Kazaa and Limewire do not allow you to have a preview of the tracks and as such, you will have a hard time downloading the DJ sound effects that you are looking for.

So what you can so instead is to head on to royalty free music websites and download your DJ tracks or sound effects. The good thing about royalty free sound effects is that you will not have to worry about getting in trouble with the law. Unlike copyrighted tracks, these royalty free sound effects can be used many times over. You are the proud owner of these sound effects and as such use them as much as you like.

Use music editing software to make the necessary changes like looping and music cropping. Learn how to make full use of your music edit software to make the most out of these free DJ sound effects.

Upon creating your desired dance track, get ready and embed them into your very own blogs, websites and MySpace profile.

Be the groovy chick and awe everyone with your very own dance track!

A groovy chick will also need a groovy computer. So, what you can do is that with the very same sound effects that you have downloaded, use them on your computer's desktop. Listen to the computer jingle when an error messages pops up. Change the sounds when the computer starts up or when it shuts down. Change the way your computer looks and sounds!

Being someone who stands out sure doesn't hurt sometimes. It's time to bring your groove over to your blogs and websites and let the world know who is the grooviest chick in town!

This year's Pulse Fringe Festival in Ipswich promises to be the biggest yet, with over thirty productions from across the country performing over the course of three weeks in venues around Ipswich. Art, music, dance and theatre all combine for this three week festival extravaganza! Here's the inside scoop on some of the productions you can catch in 2008.

From 29th of May to the 14th of June, at venues throughout town, over thirty productions will be featured. These shows range from the comic to the tragic, from poets to adult puppet comedy, and include jazz, dance, and a Nightmare Cafe. Many of these shows are premiere productions, and many will be headed from the East of Anglia to the heart of Edinburgh for the Festival Fringe in August.

Alongside the usual high quality shows, this year's Pulse goers will get the opportunity to participate in the development of some of the UK's most exciting new theatre. 2008's festival will open with Analogue's new work in development, Beachy Head. Having seen this company's show last year, Mile End, which was part of last year's Pulse Pick of The Fringe shows in the Autumn '07 season, I can safely say that you'll definitely appreciate this company's exciting and innovative style.

Another new strand of work for Pulse is the collaboration on Visual Arts work with Town Hall Galleries to present the most exciting new and emerging work from across the region and beyond. For those with more eclectic tastes, it may be worth checking out "hac". It's described as a 'hacked computer programs shrieking and spewing out their internal circuits." It should be interesting, to say the least.

There are so many theatre companies brand new to PULSE and some returning favourites too, a combination that's sure to light up the cultural scene in Ipswich over the festival. The chance to catch some rising stars is at your fingertips in the month of June, as Pulse events take place all month long. If you're new to PULSE - or a "returning favourite" be sure to get your tickets booked and while you're at it, take some risks and book for something that you wouldn't usually!

90's dance music

Coming Out of the Dark

Designed as a companion to the singer's 1991 Into The Light--World Tour concert video, this look behind the scenes in Gloria Estefan's career draws drama and urgency from her recovery following a disastrous bus accident, which crippled the Cuban-American performer even as her popularity pushed further into the pop mainstream. Produced for the video arm of her record company, Coming Out of the Dark is hardly an objective documentary, laced as it is with testimonials from executives and frankly designed as a valentine to the feisty star; when we're given an "informal" look at Estefan composing new material in her music room, there isn't a figurative hair out of place as captured through these expertly shot segments.

The story, however, is intrinsically compelling, and Estefan offers her fans glimpses into the genesis of the songs from her Into the Light album. The singer's steely resolve, which doubtless explained the speed of her recovery, is visible, too, as is her sure sense of command over recording sessions. Brief performance excerpts show her saucy style of salsa-drenched pop, as well as less satisfying stabs at boiler-plate pop-rock songs that were aimed squarely at the charts. A segment chronicling a video shoot with choreographer-turned-director Kenny Ortega reveals both the technical intricacy of shooting elaborate dance sequences and the hyperbolic coddling platinum stars can expect from their most diplomatic handlers. --Sam Sutherland

COLDPLAY UK Tour 2001 - Custom Framed Original Concert Ad - Framed Music Poster/Print

COLDPLAY UK Tour 2001 - Custom Framed Original Concert Ad 29x24cm 23mm black wood frame with white mat Glazed with plexiglass

Yogafit founder Beth Shaw has compiled an exquisite set of intoxicating grooves featuring female vocalists. Created to enhance the experience of yoga, dance or late-night listening with your sweetie, Angels Voices is sure to click in your pulse as a relaxes your mind. Award-winning DJs the Gordon Brothers mixed this entrancing selection of tracks to maximize the mystical union of body, mind, heart and spirit. Juicy world beat rhythms drive magical melodies and lay the foundation for showcasing the deliciously sensual vocals of electronic stars such as Suzanne Sterling, Sophia, Darshini, Irina Mikhailova and Helene Horlyck.

While I've reviewed a number of the CDs this music comes from, compilations such as Angels Voices are always a great way to introduce people to music that they might not otherwise know about. Helene Horlyck, for example, is featured on Achillea: The Nine Worlds. Achillea is Enigma co-founder Gens Gad, so if you love to groove with Enigma (I'm a huge fan) you're sure to love tracks such as "Cape Porcupine," "Odin's Hill" or "Staraja Ladoga." Keyboards, outrageous guitar licks and loads of seductive percussion make these tracks, and everything on Angels Voices, a delight for the senses.

I would also like to point out the group Hands Upon Black Earth. Though they have yet to release a solo album, the succulent grooves and enchanting vocals of Irina Mikhailova on "Aroha Eternal" and Suzanne Sterling on "The Star and the Snake" are hopeful signs of more to come from this mysterious, inventive collective.

An excellent choice for active movement, including Sweat Your Prayers and other forms of sacred dance, Angels Voices is sure to quicken the pulse and awakened the kundalini life force. It's also a superb introduction to the Sequoia Groove releases on Sequoia Records, all of which I highly recommend.

Sleepwalking Ep

With just a sprinkle here, and a dash there, you can awaken your inner confidence in no time. The best part: there is already a treasure of confidence within you. Its in there, waiting. This is just an invitation to wake up and feel it. Confidence is a state of mind. Sexiness is simply how you feel as your glowing, confident self. Use these tips to bring out your most confident self.
Here they are: 5 sure-fire ways to help you REALIZE your beautiful glow.

1. Embrace you body. Everyone has a favorite body part. Maybe its your eyes, or your thighs, or your hands or your breasts. Maybe its your rump, or your lips, or yourwhatever. Embrace your favorite part by accentuating this part with how you dress and care for yourself. Serenade yourself with confidence once you learn your favorite part. This is a magical attribute, which deserves some light to be shone on it. Focus on the good, and the rest will soon fall in place.

2. Dance. Use music to unleash your confidence beast. Shes in there. Shes waiting to get out. Dance her out. You can dance like no ones watching or dance like everyones watching. Its up to you. You can follow your inner diva to create a unique dance made solely by you, or utilize the many sources the web has to offer by self-teaching yourself new moves of belly dancing, hip-hop or interpretive dance. Embrace your body as you move. Treat your body as an art as you swerve your way to your newfound confidence.

3. Give Compliments Freely. Other women you meet may have confidence issues, too. Infact, it is likely. And the strangest thing is that even the most beautiful, skinny, likeable women have self-esteem issues. Confidence is an attribute, which must come from within. Without it, you will never feel pretty enough, thin enough, or good enough. If you start giving compliments to other women, you are leading by example. We are in this together. We can learn to be beautiful together. Say goodbye to the days where other women are competition. The most confident women know it is sexy to give compliments and embrace the beauty in everyone.

4. Love your body now. Dont wait until its 15 (or 5 or 50) pounds lighter; dont wait until you get your new haircut or give yourself a manicure. Although it is important to take care of our selves, so many women see it as a precursor to loving our selves. Nothing could be farther from the truth. If you love your body now, you will intuitively know what else needs to be done to remain healthy and vibrant. Yes, perhaps you do need that massage after a killer week at work. No, most likely you dont need that nose job if you can fully embrace your unique God-given look as an original woman in her own sexy skin.

5. Dont point out your flaws. If I constantly said: I have such a flabby gut. Ughh, I hate my stomach. Look at these rolls Well, guess where you will soon be looking? Yep, you guessed it: my flabby rolls. Stop bringing attention to these not-so-favorite areas. Go back to rule #1. Embrace your body. If you have trouble with this rule, please continue to check back with rule #1. Embrace, embrace, embrace.

As you can see these five ideas are fairly simple. But how often do we forget to embrace our bodies and shine from within? Use these ideas to stay on top of your confidence game. In no time, youll get be confident and radiant and youll be soaring to new heights of beauty from your treasure of inner confidence.

Parachutes

Customer Review: Another Import CD of "Parachutes" with Great Bonus Tracks
It's been 4+ years since the original release of Coldplay's debut album in the UK (the US release would follow in Nov. 2000), and as the phenom called Coldplay is getting bigger and bigger, it's now clear that "Parachutes" is a classic, in every sense of the word. By now, the original 10 tracks of the album all have become so instantly familiar, yet never tiresome. There is of course "Yellow", the US break-through single but for me probably the weakest track on the set. Check out instead "Shiver", "Don't Panic" (with the immortal line "We Live in a Beautiful World"), "Trouble" and Sparks", 4 other singles from the album (all of them still available on Amazon). This import version of "Parachutes" (14 tracks, 56 min.) comes with 4 additional tracks on a separate CD: "Sparks" in the album version (nothing new here), but then also "Careful Where You Stand" which is a b-side from the "Shiver" single, "Yellow" in an accoustic version that in my opinion is actually better than the original version, and the hauntingly beautiful "See You Soon", which originally appeared on the "Blue Room" EP. Both "Careful" and "See You Soon" are essentials in the Coldplay catalogue. We now await Coldplay's new album, which supposedly will come out in Spring 2005. Who knows whether that's gonna be any good, but for sure it's gonna be a monster, and Coldplay is well on its way to be the next U2. Meanwhile, enjoy the humble and intimate debut album which I dare say Chris and the boys will never surpass.
Customer Review: A Breath of fresh air
When I first heard "Yellow" by Coldplay, the thing that caught my attention was how smooth this band's sound was. Upon purchasing the album, I found that I couldn't take it out of my CD player for weeks. Coldplay is definitely a breath of fresh air in the music world. The album follows, almost methodically, a perfect pattern from song-to-song. If you're one who likes to listen to an album all the way through, this album gladly gives you the honor. I recommend it to anyone in need of comfort on a cloudy day.

When it comes to the sound of the acoustic guitar a feeling of romance is sure to be conjured up by the many aficionados of this great musical instrument. The music spectrum of this instrument include hot spicy flamenco dance numbers and soft and melodic songs with many textures of sound and melody. Not many people will appreciate the range of music an acoustic guitar has, but just about everyone will recognise the beautiful tunes that an acoustic guitar makes.

Have you ever had the dream of being able to play an acoustic guitar? Do you ever walk past a shop that sells them, and get the urge to go inside pick one up, feel the sturdy neck and caress the strings to play a tune? Did you ever wonder how much it would cost to learn to play one? Or have you wondered just how difficult it would be to learn maybe?

Imagine how good it would be to be sitting in front of your friends and family and show off your newly acquired talent of being able to play the guitar you just bought. Do you ever think in frustration that if you only had the time you could seriously get down to the business off learning to play.

Although you might get the idea that acoustic guitars are some kind of magical instruments there is nothing really that special in their make up. It is just their music that conveys that special mysticism that surrounds them. Think about when you were little and learned to write. At first it seems like you have achieved something that is wonderful but eventually it becomes second nature to undertake all kinds of writing assignments with a mere pencil being the instrument that allows you to do this. This is the same with an acoustic guitar, it is merely the instrument that allows you and your skill to make beautiful music. And as far as learning to play the acoustic guitar, the same principles like learning to write apply. You start to doodle first by playing around with it and then you get more and more the feel of it till music starts to pour out from your fingers into the guitar.

Indeed an acoustic guitar does come across as a fairly compelling instrument, especially if you never played it before. When music comes out of guitars it stands head and shoulders above the sounds of most other instruments which is why it is so popular. Practice enough and you can almost play any tune.

The outstanding qualities that the acoustic guitar has, often leads people to approach it with too much awe. They can't see that the music comes not from the guitar but from the person that plays it.

You will not be wasting your time if you take the time and energy to learn how to play the acoustic guitar. So if you happen to have one gathering dust in the attic, then go get it, or go and buy one at your local music store. Whatever you do, you will not be disappointed.

Ivan Calderwell writes for acousticguitarshops.com where you can easily find the acoustic guitar you always wanted as well as all the latest news, views and reviews on this great musical instrument.

Customer Review: Great Karaoke System
This cartridge adds 200 songs to the basic system. I has a good variety of music that I like. I highly recommend it.

Music plays a very important role in a kid's life. From cradle to the grave our lives are effected by all kinds of music. When I hear music from the 50's, I can sing all of the words and dance the "swing" "jigger bug" and all those famous old moves. Kids are making their memories through music so they can recall their childhood when they hear a Hannah Montana song. When they are middle age and put the High School Musical in the DVD they will be able to sing every song and dance the dances. Kids love to dance and sing all of the songs--just to have good, clean fun. I believe it makes high school appealing to the Tweens because it sits the stage of fun, trust and experiences that will stay with them all of their lives. Believe it or not these productions are not just a movie being released--oh no!

Of course, there is the selling of DVD's, posters, T-shirts and all kinds of merchandise that produces well over $100 million enterprise.

I will be writing about Hannah Montana, and her dad, in another article. Their success is unbelievable. In talking with kids, their comments on the side is "I sure hope she doesn't mess up her life". Kids want a good, clean model to sing with and dance with and so far Miley Cyrus playing Hannah Montana provides this to our kids.

Let me give parents a few ideas on encouraging kids to continue to pick out good, clean, happy models.

1) When your kids dance and sing to the High School Musical or a song from Hannah Montana, get off the couch and join them--make it fun!

2) Purchase the DVD immediately and T-Shirts, etc. to let them know that you think Hannah and High School Musicial is great as well.

3) Pray these role models, that our kids have selected, do not "mess up their lives". If they do, be prepared to talk with your kids about it.

A frequent question is, "How do we get our child to practice the piano?"I always stop them politely and say, "Please, say 'Play the piano' not 'Practice the piano.' "If you make the piano into a game, you might get the child to try playing piano on their own, not under your orders. For example, your child undoubtedly has a favorite toy or game. You don't have to say, "Go play your game," because the child ALWAYS wants to do that activity which brings them such personal reward. To learn the piano even moderately well (even as an adult) you'll need not only persistence, hard work and a lot of intelligence, but also one other quality: love. That's right, you'll have to love the piano in order to weather all that repetition, confusion and effort, not to mention the time involved. What could possibly make so many people work so hard to master this great instrument? The answer is, because they love the instrument.

And this is also the answer to the original question, "How do we get our child to practice the piano?"You get them to play because it's so much fun that they do it themselves. There is no "practicing." You don't have to tell them to practice. They play the piano as if it were a toy, a treasured toy they like to spend time with, until they're done with it, and then off to another happy activity. Now, for children, this is very easy to accomplish. How? Simply lower the bar initially to the degree that the child cannot fail, can only succeed.

Make initial lessons so much fun that the child begins to want to explore the world of music through the piano. Do this as long as the child needs it until they demonstrate comfort playing simple music.

As an example, let them play with their index finger, as their instincts tell them and piano teachers see again and again. It teaches the child no bad habits because the "one finger system" will be gradually improved upon. How? By using simple finger and note games. See the article on Fingering. Basically, a fingering curriculum might be to let the child play with one index finger initially, preferably the right index finger. It doesn't matter if the child is left or right handed, start with the right index finger.

Then let them play with the index fingers of both hands. Then introduce the right thumb. Then use the right thumb and index together as a team. Then introduce the right middle finger as the third member of the team.

And all this finger stuff and games is before they ever see a note of music!

Always let them go back to a simpler system (one finger) if they demonstrate repeated discomfort with a more complex finger position (more than one finger.)

Discomfort is a child's way of saying, "You're going too fast."

It's far more important that the child feels proud and happy than you, the teacher, feel your method has been understood and mastered. The child doesn't care about your "method," or any method. They care about how they feel about themselves and how they feel about the piano. It's simple human natureAfter a little rest (simplicity,) they are ready for another try at reading music, but never press beyond the point of "mostly fun with a little work."Better to back off while it's still fun, and try again another day when they're fresh: it's hard work to learn the piano and you're better off if you and your teacher are not in a hurry. With a child it's not difficult to get them started without anxiety, but it requires a teacher of almost Biblical patience.Give your student a system that is transparently simple, like piano by number, and let them play by themselves. Hopefully your only problem will be getting enough songs for them to consume and explore.

Kids get very good quickly with piano by number, and then, at the time they become comfortable, of course, is the perfect moment to introduce reading music, for they are already comfortable with the instrument and able to play familiar songs reasonably well, in a way that makes them feel proud.

You'll need a good teacher, a very, very patient, almost saintly creature who is funny, articulate, and always has a secret curriculum in mind, reading music.Allow the child time to demonstrate that they are ready pass beyond the world of preparatory piano games and attempt to start to read music.

This "time" could be a week, could be a year, and is entirely dependent on the particular child. Almost the only mistake you can make is to go too fast.

All children start learning the piano in different ways, and a good teacher unlocks the way of teaching that gets them started and makes them love it from the very first minute.

This "magic way," is different for each child, can be humor, it can be math, it can be them imitating what you play, it can be sound games, it can be number games, it can be "Name That Tune," it can be playing with your nose, but don't let them leave that piano with anything in mind but, "Wow, that was FUN!"Delay reading music until the child is comfortable playing simple, familiar songs by number. And when you begin to read music, make each attempt initially no longer than a minute or so. That's right, a minute at a time. The concepts have to be broken down into such simple units that only a minute is required to make a child understand each idea.Later, those ideas are drawn together, allowing the child to easily find the notes on the page on the piano.

You can use the concepts in our book I CAN READ MUSIC, and as a practical matter, never go to the next idea until you are absolutely certain the child can unfailingly master each simple idea (such as lines and spaces, what is a note, where is middle C, etc.)

I've said it before: the worst habit you can learn at the piano is to not enjoy it and not want to play. That's the habit that will make you want to quit.

MTV Unplugged

On March 6th, Julieta Venegas recorded her MTV Unplugged at the Churubusco Studies in Mexico City, where she presented new songs besides interpreting some of her greatest hits in an intimate atmosphere to a live audience.

This production counts on important and interesting collaborations like two time Oscar winner, Gustavo Santaolalla, who accompanied her with the banjo and sang the chorus of the song "Algun Dia (Someday)". Brazilian singer, Marisa Monte featured in song "Illusion", a new and beautiful song that combines the Spanish and Portuguese language.

Also Mala Rodriguez joined Julieta and included a strong hip hop movement to the song "Eres Para Mi (You are for Me)", whereas the vocalist of Porter, Juan Carlos had a unique participation in "Algun Dia (Someday)".

In addition, the very talented Natalia Lafourcade comprised of the orchestra and played several instruments during the night, whereas the talented musician and composer, Jacques Morelenbaum accompanied Julieta on the cello in "De mis Pasos (From my foot steps)".
