I am not going to write a review of this movie...I will just say their is a point in this movie when Zack Braff's character is let off the hook by his fiance' for what he did when she caught him lying about where he spent his night...he only kissed a girl...at the time she caught him, he admitted everything...lying...the kiss...etc...and at the time he was being honest. Prior to her forgiveness (the night she caught him) a huge fight happens and Braff left in a huff returning to the other woman and they got it on. She oblivious to the later encounter forgives him for the initial stuff he told her because thats all she knew about...and it seems all is well, she clearly give him a pass for what she knows. She is back to herself...she asks him if when he told her what happened he was being honest...and truth be told he was...at the time..because at the time thats all that happened...so he clearly is in the clear and scott-free...there is a pause...as I watched this I gasped thinking..."don't do it"...he then tells her the rest and she flips out on him, kicking him out and he ends up sleeping on the porch. I laugh at movies, I get pissed when movies insult me like I don't have a brain, but rarely has a movie every caught me up like that for that one monent you really felt like you were in that situation shaken your head like you are about to witness a car wreck. Thats powerful, thats a great scene. The movie is real life, and not real life like a Kevin Smith movie were its not really like that...in Smith's movies fat losers win over girls that would never give them the time of day and people talk too much about stuff that they normally would never care about, not as much dialouge as a Quinton movie thats just insane. This is of course right before Smith rushes an ending to the movie that seems like he put no thought into it and the payoff he build for you never arrives. The Last Kiss is real life, in movie, its not grandious, it sucks and people mistakes. Very thought provoking. MAkes you wonder what kind of jerk you really are.

$ The Curious Case Of Benjamin Button The Criterion Collection Blu ray

I'm weighing in late on this one, but I didn't see until a few days ago. Really, what is left to say that hasn't been written previously on Amazon? I feel at another disadvantage as well in that I didn't read the original story first. Judging by what others have penned--and some unanswered questions of my own in the film--it may have helped to see what was on F. Scott Fitzgerald's mind. Well, I needn't explore the plot much since everybody's already done that.

The film has a lot going for it. For one, most of it takes place in Old New Orleans (my home town for awhile) and you can't go wrong--provided you capture the flavor (which I feel the movie did). It has 3 fantastically popular & attractive "stars" (and I must confess I haven't seen much of their work, particularly Brad Pitt's.) It has a great overall cast too. The African-American actors were particularly effective I thought. And, of course, it has a very mysterious & unlikely storyline.

On the debit side, the movie was too long for what it had to offer (or failed to suggest in the script). I think 15 mins. could have been deleted--and my aim would be the whole scenario about modern dance. Not cut completely, but cut nonetheless.

It was sort of funny that Tilda Swinton should be in this age-generation-bending little epic, considering her own role in ORLANDO where she not only age-bent, but gender-bent as well. I like her, but was not particularly keen about her Moscow scenes. There was just something superficial about them--not her--them.

So far I have not seen a Brad Pitt film where I could say, Wow, he's a really good actor; but as I said, I've only seen a few movies he was in, but not really "starred" in. This film didn't help because so much of his character depended upon technicalities (make-up, special effects, etc.) over technique (as in acting). As to his physical beauty, that was really only featured in a short scene with Cate Blanchett (my own reigning diva at the moment.) Sorry, girls...you're in luck, though, if you like tiny little old men.

I found the production interesting enough to see it twice in a row. I was mesmerized by the early scenes--and LOVED the big scene at the revival meeting. The little Benjamin was really, really cute & great to watch. These were the best scenes I felt. They caught the (inter-racial) mood of turn-of-the-century New Orleans. I noticed another reviewer had a problem with how the father was portrayed in the movie rather than in the book. A major reason to have read it first because there was something that just didn't click or ring true about it for me either.

Finally, what I will remember most about the film is the music--it was wonderful, perfect. Sometimes you could barely hear it, then at the appropriate spot it would amplify ever so gently--like a music box or from an old time circus. It was one of the best movie scores I've heard lately. Whimsical, mystical, magical to compliment the theme.

Despite the lack of the 5 Star rating, I know I'll watch the movie again...maybe even tonight (it's a rainy, stormy night--lightening & all, perfect night for a sweet fantasy.)

      'night, y'all!

I liked this film. My wife found it difficult to understand, but if you have a concept of the Japanese religions, then the plot should be pretty straight-forward. What more can I add that many have said previously. The script was really bad, the choice of Evi, previously played by Rachel Weisz (and sorely missing), was atrocious. There was almost no chemistry amongst the cast this time around, as if they knew this was a stinker and they were just going through the motions. Another thing, why 7 years between The Mummy Returns and this one? If there is usually such a long time lag in a series, the interest in the series has usually faded or gone away altogether. Typical Hollywood, completely clueless.

I bought this on HD-DVD based on the strength of others' reviews. I have to say...I'm a little disappointed (but not too much). The time lapse photography is breathtaking at times, the accompanying music is well matched. However, it has been approximately 25 years since this was made, and the visuals that were unbelievable in the 80s are far more commonplace today. The clarity is perfectly suited for 1080p HD, as is the rich soundtrack.

Chronos provides great background visuals and music for a more formal dinner party of get together; it's not particularly fitting for "let's go watch Chronos!" As background or filler, it's great. As the main feature, it's a little slow and uninspiring for me.

-- The Devil s Own Blu ray

The main complaint about this movie is that the depiction of Irish terrorism is unrealistic. So what, that's not even what the movie is really about. The movie is about what you would do if you figured out that someone you had accepted into your home had been lying to you all along and had even put your family in danger. This concept creates an entertaining film and makes up for the few unrealistic scenes in the beginnning.

As I have the orignal Anchor Bay and Blue Underground DVD versions I was very interested in what the Blue Ray version would be like. I pre-ordered the item from Amazon about 6 weeks ago when I saw it listed and received my copy yesterday and watched it last night. All I can say is WOW. What a transfer. The colors are extremely vivid. It looks like it was filmed yesterday. An exceptional job. Oddly, the Blue Underground DVD version has a few extras not on the Blue Ray but no big deal. If your a fan of this film and are into Blue Ray buy this immediately. You will not be disappointed.

This is the most completely satisfying video production of Don Giovanni I have encountered to date. Allow me first to assuage concerns regarding the sound on this Blu-Ray disc -- succinctly put, the LPCM 5.1 sound is impeccable. The singing, acting, conducting, design, stage direction, and video direction converge ideally with each other to create a jewel of operatic performance. The result is an as near perfect production of Don Giovanni as I have ever seen (N.B. The search for such a well-balanced production of Don Giovanni, either in live performance in opera houses around the world or in video productions from film to Beta to VHS to Laserdisc to DVD, has been the "Holy Grail" of my opera enjoyment for the past thirty years. I believe I have found it.) I am heartened to think that this production on Blu-Ray may provide newcomers to Mozart and opera in general with an elegant and superb indtroduction to both the composer and the medium.

#*# Redbelt BD Live Blu ray

Mixing David Mamet's whip smart dialogue and paranoid penchant for double crosses with Tim Allen and the trendy sport of mixed martial arts sounds like a car crash waiting to happen, and while the car here does sputter and veer onto the shoulder a bit, it never actually flips over and catches fire. Everyone walks away in one piece, but slightly dazed; the denouement to the action a bit underwhelming, the bloodthirsty gawkers a bit disappointed.

Chiwetel Ejiofor is in his usual fine form as Mike Terry, a principled but impoverished Jiu Jitsu instructor well-versed in the usual platitudes about the transcendental nature of martial arts. "There is no situation you cannot escape from", he states far too often, "I train people to prevail."

Terry refuses to fight in organized matches for reasons that remain somewhat undefined, although it all has something to do with sport ruining the purity of violent combat by establishing rules, or the matches possibly being fixed. It doesn't really matter why, exactly, all that matters is that his idealism has led him and his vaguely treacherous wife away from a path of material wealth, and into a life where they cannot afford to replace a window after a banal accident.

It's this accident that brings doe-eyed rape victim Laura Black (Emily Mortimer) into his Dojo. It's also this accident, and his strange, controlling insistence that she take off her jacket, that eventually leads Mike Terry into a world of blackmail, bar fights, intellectual property law, rigged white marbles and fabric deals gone sour. In Mamet's mind, one slight turn of chance and you're down the rabbit hole.

There are plot holes so outlandish that they would make the most forgiving of viewers cringe (the marble system and the inciting Dojo incident are especially stupefying.) And there are scenes that seem like they must have come from cough syrup hallucinations (Terry being presented with an ivory-studded Japanese champion's belt on the arena tarmac after rendering thirty security guards unconscious, to name one.)

But even with sub-par Mamet there's usually something of interest on display, and if you're willing to forgive the inconsistencies in the story, conspire with the cloudy reasoning of the characters, accept that there's usually a shadowy hand working against you, and not probe any of it too deeply, then you may find "Redbelt" to be a diverting morality play with good acting and tough dialogue.
