The film is beautifully directed and well acted. It is hard to define in terms of genre, but definitely a classic film worth being in the Criterion Collection. It is definintely for adults only. You should not watch this if you are uncomfortable with the explicit sexuality, but by the same token, if you are looking to watch pornagraphy, you will be disappointed. This film is about the characters and their storyline.

All of us in the UK give the BBC a hard time for churning our rubbish at our expense and then something comes along and you say: "all is forgiven!" This is a fine example of the greatness of the BBC. A poet wrote (I can't remember who): "the beauty of the world has made me sad, a beauty that will pass" or something to that effect. Now I don't go along with the tone of the poem which is depressive, I can understand though the poet's being moved by the grandeur of nature. And this is precisely what happened to me watching this wonderful programme - a sense of how awesome nature is and how awesome man is who is shown in this series to blend with nature and harness its powers. I was particularly struck by the fisherman with their captive comorants who had been trained to work alongside the fishermen essentially to do their fishing for them. And, the landscapes and the extraordinary monkies etc - wonderful.



One slightly negative point and that it is obvious that to obtain chinese approval a certain degree of compromise was necessary - thus in the Tibet programme we are simply told that Tibet has been part of China for 50 years i.e. there is no mention that it was annexed. Anyway, this is a small quibble.



This is the kind of series (there are 6 hour long episodes) which you can watch many times over the years.

This is my all-time favorite movie and, in my view, where Bill Murray is at his best (second best at the first Ghost Busters). It has even become a joke in our family to poke fun at each other with lines from GHD, like "Don't drive angry"! At first, I watched it for the fun. After all, only Bill Murray can make me laugh hard by just standing there and staring, either with a quizzical or an utterly blank look. But then I started seeing another side to the story, deeper, with a message. As I am no movie critic, I can only say that, in my humble view, the selfish, bitter, megalomanously egocentric character Bill Murray plays, suffers a radical transformation throughout the movie. The ones who have had the luck of seeing a butterfly come out of a cocoon will certainly forgive me for comparing the Phil of the beginning of the movie with an imprisoned larva, and the one at the end with the hesitantly delicate butterfly slowly coming out to the world. There are stories for children that a person can enjoy them in both childhood and adulthood. Examples: Harry Potter, the Twilight Saga, X-Men, and, of course, Star Wars. However, there are also stories that a person can love as a child, but when they grow up, they look back on and wonder just why the heck they liked it. Star Wars: Clone Wars (the movie) is unfortunately one of those. In fact, it's the only Star Wars project I'm aware of that I, as an adult, thought was so silly I couldn't really enjoy it.



Star Wars: Clone Wars is pure action. It lacks the interesting characters, interesting character interactions (father/son like Obi-Wan/Anakin; romances like Anakin/Padme or Han/Leia; master/servant dynamics like Sidious/Vader or Obi-wan/Luke), the more religious and philosophical undertones the Jedi often refer to; ideas about corruption and redemption; they're all absent, replaced by constant battle scenes.



The movie also introduces Ahsoka Tano, a 14-year old that's obviously supposed to act as a Mary-Sue for all the children watching to see themselves in. She's inexperienced and desperate to prove herself yet somehow keeps managing to save the day, all while giving people cutsie nicknames and throwing out witty phrases that weren't actually very witty. The movie humor was all Jar-Jar Binks humor, jokes purely for children that not only weren't funny, but mostly didn't make any sense.



However, just because this movie wasn't for me, doesn't mean it isn't any good. The show has good acting, beautiful visuals, awesome action sequences, and as I said above, the kind of humor little kids really like. Action fans will probably also like it because the battles are so exciting and well animated.



And though I doubt I'll watch the movie again, as a Star Wars fan, I'm glad I watched it because there were some things I liked. As a big fan of Padme Amidala, I loved watching her get her very own action and strategy sequences. Also, the movie introduces a lot of very interesting and cool characters (various clones and he villain Ventress, for example) that get better development in the Clone Wars series (the series, thankfully, returns to be accessible to both children and adults). The girl in me has to admit the Huttling was pretty cute, and it was fun to see the softer side of Jabba. And the action really was great.



If you're a young Star Wars fan, check it out. If you're an adult, go ahead if you have to see everything Star Wars, but rent it first. Two-and-a-half stars for me, four stars overall.

Although there were some slow parts in this movie, Nicole Kidman's character is so bizarre that I was able to keep interested in this movie even during the slow parts. I kept trying to figure her out.

An example of her bizarre behavior is in the beginning when she takes all these special precautions and administers warnings before anyone can even see her kids. I kept wondering if her kids had rabies or something.



There's a plot twist involving the elderly couple that is pretty easy to figure out. But the plot twist at the end completely shocked me. I had NO idea that was coming. When I watched the movie a second time, I noticed important clues that I had missed the first time.



I love when a story can surprise me like that. Very clever!

As it starts out, I liked it and it had that creepy HP Lovecraft shadow over Insmouth sort of thing going - then runs right into a brick wall and ends. I was like...huh?....feeling like I was engaged in a long engrossing phone call, and my cell phone just lost service-blap! Where's my closure?! I was really honked off - things were good and then-BLAP. That suks, and that's sad, because this would have been a really good creepy film if the end - had a real end to work with. Rent- don't buy - unless you like the tease with no pay off.

Che is a four-hour plus film that really tests the patience of the average viewer. The film falls way short of reasonable expectations on several levels.



First, the film starts with a fully radicalized Che; with no background story on how the privileged doctor Ernesto became revolutionary communist Che. Without the back story of his evolution, it's hard to understand "where he is coming from".



Second, the film ignores his allegedly extremely violent manner and bloodthirsty executions he ordered on thousands of Cubans who were thought to be enemies of the state after Castro came into power.



Third, the film ignores his journey to the Congo. Something interesting must have happened there.



Fourth, the film spends hours showing Che and his band of guerillas wandering about the Bolivian mountains. Not that interesting.



I could go on, but despite the good acting by Benicio Del Toro, and some good cinematography, the movie is ultimately quite a disappointment.

The movie tells the story of typical, 1980's, Hollywood stylized version of high school--there are the jocks and the nerds and the quintessential queen bees that are running the show.

The movie was made prior to Columbine and other high-profile school tragedies. This movie is clearly an over-the-top satire, but I doubt any movie company would be willing to touch the subject matter today. It is part of the American cinemagraphic lexicon. Everyone has to see it. Plus you get great lines like, "What is your damage, Heather?" and "Well, f*** me gently with a chainsaw."

We all love Clint, his movies and his acting. This was a good movie overall, but the only thing that ruined it was the profanity, especially the unneccesary language from the part played by Bud Gerber (John Slattery). Too much of "F" this, and "GD" that", along with others. I know this is war and almost anything goes, but I'm certain back in the 1940's the text was not used so freely as it is in todays society. Because of this, the movie doesn't make it real nor does it make the movie a good quality, it good have been better. Maybe someday a director will take more control of the dialog/script and make a great quality movie for all to see.

#$ The Ant Bully Blu ray

We've seen plenty of CGI-animated films that involve talking ants (Antz, A Bug's Life). The Ant Bully is the most recent one, released back in 2006, and I have to say that it's the weakest of them all. To to say that it's incredibly bad, but it's still pretty mediocre. The good things about this film are the ants themselves: I found myself admiring their personalities and even their appearances. The animation looks good in some corners, and the orchestral score sounds great, even if it isn't very memorable. I especially like the lack of pop culture references that are typically found in today's CGI-animated films. Unfortunately, these things aren't enough to save the film. The story is predictable (even kids will probably figure out how it all ends), the human supporting characters are dull, the main character (the kid) is an especially unbelievable bore, and the jokes are very VERY stale. Like I said, it's not a terrible film, but it's not a good one either. This one is just below mediocre.

for me,Tony Scott can be hit(Crimson Tide,Top Gun) and miss(Domino,Man On Fire)as a director.so where does he fit with this particular film.well for me,it's a hit.this is a fairly fast paced film.with lots of action,there lots of violence and bloodshed in this one,but there are also some tender and dramatic moments,which are handled well.the dialogue is sharp and clever and there are some memorable characters.much of the credit of that must go to Quentin Tarantino,who wrote the script.but to his credit Scott was also much more restrained in his directing style back then compared to on more recent films like Domino,where everything is hyper-kinetic and migraine inducing.bottom line-i found True Romance entertaining on all levels.but be warned,it is extremely violent and there is a lot of very strong language.for me,True Romance is a 4/5
