Customer Review: Rosetta Stone V3-Spanish (Latin America) Level 1,2,3
I purchased this for my college-aged daughter so that she could become proficient in Spanish. This has given her the practice she needs that the classroom (high school) did not.
Customer Review: Great Addition to School Learned Spanish
I took 17 hours of Spanish during my undergraduate degree, but could not speak Spanish. I could read Spanish, but I could not understand it when spoken. Rosetta Stone takes a different approach to teaching Spanish than my university. It has made understanding and speaking Spanish within my reach. I had a strong vocabulary base, but Rosetta Stone has helped me to be able to speak and use this vocabulary in everyday conversation. This is a great complement to any Spanish curriculum. It is a wonderful option for those who couldn't learn Spanish "the old fashion way."

Learn to Salsa Dance Video Series, Vol 1: Salsa Dancing Guide for Beginners
Customer Review: No rhythm no problem
I will say this I'm Hispanic so I did know some Salsa before I purchased this DVD. I wanted to learn some advanced moves and I realized before I purchased this video that prob wasn't for me. It wasn't but it did teach me some basic concepts in general. It also taught me how to turn. I'm a natural dancer but it gave me concrete steps which I just do without thinking. That being said I do believe this will teach ANYBODY to dance. He gives so much detail and repetition there is no way you won't be able to pick it up. I love the hand tricks. Also I didn't have a partner and this a partner video. Don't buy if you have dance experience.
Customer Review: Easy to follow.
The instructions are clear and easy to follow. My husband has absolutely no rythym and he picked up the steps.

Problems with humidity can lead to heartbreak for the classical (or other) guitarist. Excessive humidity or dryness can ruin an instrument probably quicker than you think.
You must always be aware of what conditions you are leaving your instrument, whether inside a guitar case or within a room or in the open. They should NEVER be left in the sun for any length of time.
When guitars are built they are usually in an environment where the relative humidity of the room is kept constant, roughly around 50%.
To be safe you ideally should keep your instrument around this mark though they are generally regarded as safe between 40%-70% as the upper and lower margins. Below or above this can be drastic for your instrument!
An interesting example of anecdotal evidence of problems with humidity I've heard is with Ramirez guitars.
Because they're made in Spain where the humidity is often above the 50% mark and are shipped to areas where the humidity is much lower with dry winter conditions, they can easily develop cracks and slits throughout the guitar.
Having made an investment for such a beautiful guitar youd be mad not to invest in a relatively cheap system for keeping the humidity of your guitar constant, like a guitar humidifier case for example.
The damage caused by too much humidity or of drying out your instrument can range from cracks, splits and shrinkage to warping and even snapping of the wood.
There are many things you can do to prevent problems from the start. You know the old saying "an ounce of prevention is worth a pound of cure."
I would recommend keeping your house, or wherever you keep your instrument, at a constant temperature and humidity all year round.
Next I would get a humidifier for my guitar case, whether one sold commercially which releases moisture slowly and attaches to the inside of your case, or a home-made one which could consist of a wet cloth (be careful not to let it touch your instrument as it may damage the wood).
Another thing to invest in is a "hygrometer", which is an instrument that will keep track of humidity, or lack of it in your guitar case. As mentioned above, some guitar cases are made with these things as standard.
If you follow these few simple rules and keep an eye out for changes in temperature and humidity conditions it shouldn't be hard to keep your instrument in good order.
Trevor Maurice is an Australian, living in beautiful seaside Maroubra, in the eastern suburbs of Sydney.
He's been involved in playing guitar (mainly classical) for longer than he cares to remember and has also taught the instrument for many years. He is teacher trained, having a Diploma of Education (Majoring in music)
He has also taught Primary (Elementary) school for many years and had a long-held dream to build a quality website for the classical guitar that is of use to anyone even slightly interested in this beautiful instrument. He has now made that dream a reality with the highly rated...

Community and educational theaters looking for an inexpensive play that will captivate their audience and stretch their actors skills have a hard time finding plays that can be produced for the entire family. Most of the good ones have been done over and over and it doesn't seem that many new ones have quite the fun-factor family audiences desire.
In 1975, an energetic young actress named Jane VanBoskirk discovered an 80 year-old play by Joaquin Miller. Miller, a poet of the late 19th Century, was designated "The Shakespeare of the Sierras" and wrote much about the gold rush. VanBoskirk scrounged a core of local actors and technicians and on a shoe-string budget produced and directed the smash hit of the Pacific Northwest. Touring the play to over 29 locations over a seven month period in 1976, the play was written up locally as "Beats the Freedom Train", and as the best good time in local theater in decades. Newspaper articles appeared as far away as the London Times where the English have long held Miller in high esteem. The play eventually secured grants from the American Revolution Bicentennial Commission of Oregon, and the Oregon Arts Commission.
Twenty years later, one of the original actors in VanBoskirk's production produced the play as an educational experience for local teens in Vidalia, GA. A minor grassroots arts grant helped fund the production. In addition to being a first acting experience for most of the young actors, it was the first look at American literature from that theatrical period. The most amazing experience was watching the young actors build, paint, create the scene settings, and discover that they could act on a stage with people watching.
The success of the productions is based on a solid script with a melodramatic ending, the inclusion of period music played well by local musicians on guitar, piano, and violin, and foot-stomping dance numbers. Period songs used as olios help set the mood. One line guaranteed to light up the audience is given when the villain is giving advice on winning the hand of the heroine to the young hero. He says, "Woo her, win her, wed her. Wear plenty of perfumery for few women can reason, but all women can smell."
Reviews of the VanBoskirk production were titled "Thar's Gold in this Show" and "Melodramas' Opening Night Beats the Freedom Train". Excerpts include "An assortment of colorful characters complicate the plot. A kindly, broken-down prospector, a total wreck of a drunk, and raucous barmaids had the audience stomping and hissing on opening night." "The cast dishes up a hearty helping of ham-n-corn, but the play is well adapted to this sort of excess. The actors have as much fun as the audience."
To sum it up, if you are needing a great play with loads of potential fun and appreciative audiences, "49" may be that nugget you've been digging for.

What drives people? Some may say inspiration, our ambitions and needs; this is not very far from saying that people are driven by the inspiration provided by art and music as well as by the need to quench our literary thirst. For most people reading a book, watching a movie or listening to their favorite music isn't enough of an experience, the most important part is to interact and get validation from people with the same interests about our point of views and opinions.
It is often said that every individual is different, this remains true in many aspects however when it comes to topics such as Art, music and literature we all have something in common, our tastes as far as music may concur with someone else's but our interests in literature could differ. Validation and the exchange of ideas is what makes the web so popular, every site built provides ideas which are meant to be validated by people, without this basic interaction the entire concept of the web is defeated.
People interested in art, music literature, etc. have taken advantage of the web to create communities focused on sharing their thoughts regarding these topics, for instance some may consider "Five for Fighting - 100 years" as much as a piece of musical art as "Pachebel's - Canon", some may definitively disagree as both pieces belong to different genres, one has vocals the other is solely instrumental; small differences in the perception of art is what triggers reactions on which entire communities come together and share their ideas regarding the topic being discussed.
The same can be said of literature, for some Romeo and Juliet is without a doubt one of the most beautiful pieces of romantic literature ever written, however the language used may not have the same effect in contemporary readers as it won't convey the emotions it did back then; so it is to say that the power of such piece has diluted through time. In order to recreate such excellent work actors and writers come together and work in such play, however what matters is how people perceive their work and how emotions are conveyed through professional acting, again small differences trigger a sea of reviews and opinions which is better expressed in online interactions.
For most of us free speech is the ultimate work of art, as it allows us to express our thoughts through any medium without worrying of censorship, taking advantage of the tools and resources available to express our thoughts is without a doubt the most precious right.
MorbidBeauties.com provides access to an entire community of individuals whose interests revolve around gothic culture. Interact with people interested in art at the gothic forum, visit us today and create a gothic profile!

Learning how to put music to Ipod is one of the easiest things in the world, and in the next few minutes you are going to learn exactly that. Buckle up, because its going to be a quick ride!
When you are learning how to put music to Ipod, the first thing to decide is where you want to get the music from. You have two main sources-your CDs, and the internet, from downloads etc. First of all Im going to show you how to get the music from your Cds onto your Ipod.
Step 1- Connect your computer to the internet, if its not already, and download a copy of Itunes from the Apple website. If you already have Itunes, take the time to update it to the latest version. The newer ones are slightly faster.
Step 2- Grab whatever CDs you want to and transfer them into Itunes. This is just about the most simple thing in the world, so I wont insult you by dragging it out here.
Step 3- Connect the Ipod to the computer with your USB cable. All you need to do from there is make sure the computer and the Ipod are both switched on and recognise each other, then you can begin to drag and drop the songs from Itunes into your Ipod.
And thats how to put music to Ipod from your CDs. Its that easy, and all thats left is to listen to them.
In order to get the music from the internet, you will need to find a good reputable website for downloading the music from. Thats the tricky part, as once the music is downloaded all you need to do is transfer it onto the Ipod like before. For a list of a few excellent download sites, check out http://www.ipodlowdown.com. A good download site will typically charge you a small one off membership fee, and in return give you access to as many download as you wish, and their libraries are huge. Its a great way to boost your music collection, not to mention movies and Tv shows etc.
So there you are, you just learned how to put music to Ipod. Told you it wouldnt take long. Do you know anyone else with an Ipod? Why not pass this article on to them and help them out by clicking on the link on the top right of the page.

Complices
Customer Review: A good album destroyed by three songs
The album Should have not included the three songs mentioned in the previous review. These songs cut the flow of the mood, they are faster and over produced. I can't believe Luis Miguel is still singing those poppy cheesy styled songs he used to sing in the eighties. It is a shame to ruin such a great line up of songs with three songs that should have been sung by Tom Jones. I believe an album that consists mostly of ballads should include mid tempo, sexy, groovy songs to break the monotony, not cheesy poppy disco songs with choruses that will make your woman jump out of your bed and attach herself to the ceiling like a freaked-out tarantula. Luis Miguel should sing ballads,R&B,soul,Jazz, even sexy chilled-out house, but leave those songs for Tom Jones, he is the king of that style.
Customer Review: Now the marvel of Complices.
This disk is for the sensitive people and the people that understand music. It's not a contemporary radioplay. Luis Miguel interprets beatifully every song. Passion and provocative poetry are in each song of the disc. Luis Miguel and Manuel Alejandro created a great joy for those who know about music.
It's Spring Break and the flowers are in bloom, but there's no flowered scent to the rancid air in the red light district. A matted up cat scurries away from a dumpster as I pass, making my way across the littered sidewalk to a dirty little shop with a twitching neon sign, "Pawn Here."
As I approach the cracked glass counter I sense other customers' eyes on me. I don't look like I belong here in my designer boots with my sweet little 5-year-old son at my side. My son points timidly at a large rusty knife with a skull engraved in the side and I'm suddenly guilty that I've dragged him into such a seedy place.
"I hear you have a violin," I say to the rugged, hunched man behind the counter. I say it in a sweet, treble tone that make me further stand out in a "I'm just a girlie girl with too much money who knows nothing about violins" sort of way.
Truth be known, I am a violinist and a violin shop owner. I'm not an expert in advanced violin authenticity, but I know a good violin when I see one and I also know when to run away screaming when it's junk. I'm here with hopes that the violin in question is worth repairing and restringing so it may be sold cheap to a student on a budget, making me a little bit of cash as well.
My hopes are not high that this will happen, but every so often there is something worth picking up. I don't volunteer this information as past experiences have proven this always unreasonably jacks up the price about 400%. I'm not here to gouge the guy, but I don't want to be gouged myself. Act like I know nothing and I can usually get it at an appropriate price.
I will have to dance the dance to keep this transaction fair.
The man behind the corner clears his throat loudly and eyes me suspiciously. I blink twice and smile, pink lipgloss shimmering in his clouded eyes. He glares again, slowly turns then limps to a back room, shouting over his shoulder something about how he has to go to the "special room" where rare instruments are kept.
This is pawn shop Tactic #1: Talk up the merchandise and add unrealistic mystique.
He returns with what looks like a miniature coffin covered in dust. It's an old black wooden violin case. Predating plastic and styrofoam, these were the sorry excuses for cases that caused more harm to instruments than not since they had no padding and the weak metal latches that held them together would spontaneously unhinge, causing many a fiddle to fall to death during transport.
"This is a fine antique case, made in 1883," says the shopkeeper. A man to my left approaches and says breathily, "those things are worth $500! They are very rare!" I keep my neutral gaze and say, "Oh yeah."
First off, I have about 4 such cases stored under my bed since I can't get rid of the things. Secondly, I had seen this "customer" helping move stock as I passed the shop a few days earlier. He was another employee who poses as customer to add "unbiased" credibility to the lies the shopekeeper spins. My son coughs and looks around, bored out of his mind.I maintain my blank expression. I'm starting to think the violin inside this casket is a dead end.
The shopkeeper opens the case and my suspicions are confirmed.
It is absolutely horrible. A cheap, Chinese made Corelli or Bestler fiddle from the early 1980's. I've seen so many to know what they are upon first glance. It has the usual ugly starburst orange and yellow plastic finish, which has cracked due to heat exposure. The pegs are made from cheap, splintered rosewood. The chinrest and tailpiece are the cheapest shiny black plastic, with a sticky mystery stain covering the cup of the chinrest.
As if this kind violin wasn't wretched enough in playable shape, the junk before me had been crushed and nastily glued back together. Sort of. The neck was askew and the top was coming undone at one side. I can safely say this was the most deplorable violin I have ever seen, and I've seen a lot of rotten junk in my time.
I forcefully hold in judgement like a bulimic keeps from getting sick with company present. The shopkeeper inhales, about to launch into his spiel, using pawn shop Tactic #2: Let the lies begin.
"This here violin is a master instrument," he says in a hushed tone. At this I am compelled to say something or I'll burst. "It's a Chinese Strad-copy violin from the 1980's, most-likely a Corelli," I interrupt quickly. Uh oh, the jig is up. He knows I'm no dupe.
But wait, he tries pawn shop Tactic #3: Lie some more. "No, M'am," he simpers. "This is a real Stradivarius. It's been in an attic for a long time, an undiscovered treasure." His face has obviously rehearsed the honest, pleading expression. His knack for lying is, in a sick way, admirable.
This is beginning to annoy me, but I want to see how big of a hole he'll dig for himself. I look at him as if wanting to be enlightened. He takes the bait and goes for tactic #4: Lie, but make it a real whopper."This violin was made by one of Stradivarius' students," he lies.
I almost laugh out loud at this, considering "Stradivari," not "Stradivarius" was the maker of Stradivarius violins and all of his instruments have been accounted for. And really, what kind of idiot thinks the most recently discovered Strad is for sale at a lousy pawn shop?
My son is shuffling his feet, but not complaining out loud. I wish he'd throw a tantrum so I'd have an excuse to leave quickly. Instead I maintain my composure and casually thank the man for his time before I turn and leave. He keeps his cool as my son and I walk out without another glance back, though to him I'm the one that got away.
We danced the delicate dance of buyer and seller, expert and swindler, and thankfully no one's toes were stepped on. He will go on to swindle another and may do well in the end. I am happy I still believe that people are good and I don't take it personally when they go bad.
As we drive away, my son asks why I didn't buy the nice violin. The poor dear would buy an ice cube in Alaska. Thus I begin to teach him another lesson in life's tricky dance moves, keeping your balance while still enjoying the music.

Here today, gone tomorrow, bars have a reputation for short-term success. But a few have the ability to ride the times and keep on top of the game.
Ten years ago, I was sitting in The Groucho Club one late summers evening discussing with a now well known haute couture designer, the new wave of drinking culture that was enveloping the capital, arguing that London really had never been so exciting. Up until that point, drinks were very much a secondary element of the overall experience wine was simply white or red, beer came only in a pint glass and vodka was whatever paint-stripper the barman chose to pour. But in the nineties, we were on the cusp of a cocktail movement. New-world wines were making the Chardonnay and Shiraz as commonplace as the Bordeaux, while new conceptual drinks like Red Bull were seriously shaking up the market, broadening peoples drinking landscape and challenging us to think about drinking as more of a lifestyle. Slowly, what was behind the bar appeared to be taking over the focus of the night. People were whispering rumours of late night bars that were open into the wee hours, where glamourous glitterati rubbed hips with the international jet-set over Manhattans and Martinis. They, along with The Groucho, were the places everyone wanted to be seen and their popularity seemed untouchable to all but the most cynical.
Of course, everything has a lifespan, we cynically agreed: fashion is dead in a season, and a fashionable bar well you wouldnt want to bet the house on it would you? We both concluded that fashions simply cant last and those bars, which today were the subject of snaking queues, would quickly turn to yesterdays news as would the drinks that were being quaffed within. Of course, in most cases we werent far wrong. Mondo, Saint, Titanic, Riki Tik... all have fallen by the wayside having once been celebrity favourites of their day. Many others have turned from exclusive A-list excellence to godawful tourist tat. The Gin Sling became the Sea Breeze became the Bramble became the Vanilla Mojito
But its not all doom and gloom. Today, another ten years hence, I am back in the same leather couch of the same Groucho, and ordering from the menu a Red Bull, a drink whose ability to transcend fads and trends seems to symbolise the aspirations of nightlife culture. It has history and heritage and has attained almost timeless appeal. Fashionable works for a while, but every owner, manager and promoter hopes and strives for one thing ultimately and that is to be the next classic. Because the classics, while small in number, exist on a plain far superior to fashion. Dotted amongst the sprawling community of one-off wonders that populate the bar world, a few classics really have stood the test of time, riding the cyclical waves to achieve immortal credibility. The Groucho is one of those timeless classics. Through the years it has always been at the top of its game, its members list comprising the same names that populate the pages of the celebrity press together with the successful and powerful in the world of media.
Nowadays, octogenarian founder members sit comfortably alongside young achievers and its long-term future would appear to be set in stone. Embassy is another long-time winner or more to the point, its ever-present Rock n Roll proprietor, Mark Fuller, who ran the original Embassy twenty years ago with equal success. This most recent incarnation of one of Londons most famous clubs, now with a fine dining restaurant that counts among the capitals very best, and glitzy nightclub in the basement, is a rare constant in the oscillating world of the fashionable. Another face that has always been associated with bar and club supremacy is Jake Panayiotou who ran original celebrity hot-spot, Browns for a decade before moving on in its hay-day. His last few years at the helm of the Wellington Club in Knightsbridge have seen the age-old members club climb to yet new heights. But its not only members clubs that can battle through the ages unscathed. Music-led venues such as Medicine Bar in Islington, Bar Rumba, The Cross, Bar Vinyl and The End have all proved their mettle, while the likes of Hanover Grand, The Gardening Club and Iceni have collapsed into the annuls of hip history.
So, what is it that sets the one-hit-wonders apart from the immortals? What makes a classic? Three characteristics seem to pump through the veins of all the long-term winners.
Quality, choice and adaptability, says Cas, The Grouchos pre-eminent bar manager, as he deftly shakes up cocktails from behind the bar. You have to offer a quality experience in the drinks, the music, the food and the people. You must give customers what they want and you have to adapt to the times. Subtly underlining the point, my Red Bull silently arrives at the table on its own tray, dressed with a single, perfectly folded napkin.
Can staying power really be so simple to achieve? With twenty years of success behind The Groucho, the club is quite an authority on the subject, but it was Darwin who concluded that the fittest win out at the expense of their rivals because they succeed in adapting to their environment. Sounds pretty familiar to me and, lets face it, you cant argue with Darwin.
HERE TO STAY
Our selection of bars that we think will still be doing it in ten years time
MAYFAIR: Embassy
An all-round club for the all-round socialite, Embassy offers food on a par with Michelin starred restaurants, drinks that are as good as any great cocktail bar, a basement club and a guestlist that could double as a whos who of London.
COVENT GARDEN: The End & AKA
One of the capitals most respected dance music venues, with Mr C behind its success. Music is always ahead of its time and drinks are a world away from most dance music venues.
KNIGHTSBRIDGE: Wellington Club
With over 100 years of history, The Wellington has been reborn as an exclusive hangout for the citys hippest. Lounge bar and club rolled into one and popular with the paps and the press alike.
WEST: Woodys
On the banks of Londons longest canal, Woodys has become accepted as the members bar for the music industry. Three floors of food drink and dance with a collection of the best music and cocktail mixologists in the country.
ISLINGTON: Medicine Bar
It was the bar that put Islington on the credible map. One of the original DJ bars that has been made a home to the clubbing community of the 1990s.
CAMDEN: Bar Vinyl
Reputedly the first DJ bar in London, Bar Vinyl combines a record shop with the only bar in Camden really worth its salt. The bar is minuscule, but the offering is enormous and the future is vast.
SHOREDITCH: Home
One of the originators of the Shoreditch movement, Home made its mark before all of the others and continues to hold its own. It has moved from a scraggly basement bar to a slick, but funky cocktail bar and restaurant and continues to define the times.
SOHO: The Groucho
A favourite media hangout, The Groucho is like a party in your own front room with the kind of people that anybody would eat their own right arm to have turn up at their party. Now with a more modern bar on the first floor to complement the leather and wood ground floor classic, it is a members bar that suits all and bound to see in another twenty year term.
HOXTON: Zigfrid
A newcomer to the Hoxton set, Zigfrid is most likely to be here in ten years. Brainchild of leading bar designer, Paul Daly, it appeals to the more creative Hoxtonians and since the district is a hotbed of creativity, its proving pretty popular.
FITZROVIA: Social
A collaboration between bar gurus The Breakfast Group and music gurus, Heavenly Social, this backstreet concrete bunker of a bar offers some of the best DJ-led and live music about. Now with sister venues in Islington and Nottingham, Social is destined for a big future.

80s dance musicGloria Estefan and Miami Sound Machine - Homecoming Concert
This is the concert where I fell in love with Gloria and the MSM. The music is classic and the performance brings me back to my happy teen years. I have played the video at least once/week for the last 15 years and it never fails to make me feel good. Gloria's outfits are very sexy and alot of fun to look at. From the thigh boots and tight body outfit it to the chaps wearing biker chick look she oozes Sex Appeal. Hoping some day it'll be on DVD and re-released as a Classic. Joanne
Customer Review: Excellente (y Caliente?)
This is a classic concert. And I agree that it should be released on DVD. "Words Get in the Way" performed accousticly with John and Jorge on guitars, "FANTASTIC". Or how about Gloria looking "Caliente" wearing jeans covered by some leather cowboy stuff. Next year I went to the concert in Rotterdam, but she didn't wear the outfit. Hahahha. Should have asked my money back. No, seriously. This tape is EXCELLENTE (Y CALIENTE?).
Ever so often a cultural force grabs America by the neck and does not let go. The chicken noodle soup dance and song could be the next silent assassin in the night, waiting to take the spot. As its popularity grows, chicken noodle soup could become the next big thing on Americas pop culture landscape.
You may ask what the chicken noodle soup dance is ? The chicken noodle soup dance originated in Harlem, New York and started out as a street dance done by young urbanites. An accompanying song was released and this birthed the dance craze for 2006. The song by Webstar and Young B has placed more attention on the dance as it catchy lyrics and simplified chorus has infected the radio airwaves of America.
The chicken noodle soup dance can be done in many different ways as each dancer adds their own personal flair to it. The basic steps in the dance begin with dancers following the initial lyrics from the accompanying song. Let it rain and clear it out When this is said dancers bring their hands down like the rain is falling, then they clear out whoever is beside them by doing a sweeping action with their hands. This is done three times before Webstar sings Chicken noodle soup. At this point the chicken noodle soup dance begins. This is the side to side movements of the legs followed by the flailing of the arms to match the corresponding feet movement. As mentioned before, personal style is incorporated a lot into the dance. You have people who spin, jump and create sheer havoc with this dance.
The chicken noodle soup however has it detractors. There are many people in the black community who feel that the chicken noodle soup dance is nothing more than the 2006 version of shucking and jiving. They feel as if this dance is a step backward.
The Chicken noodle soup might possibly infiltrate American popular for 2007. The suburbs has slowly caught on and as the song gets bigger and bigger, it can be guaranteed that soccer moms and wall street executives will be chicken noodle souping at their various parties and social events.

Crunch - Cardio Salsa
Customer Review: good but some disappointment
dance steps are fine and not too difficult but steps are done to a percussion beat rather than to tunes and real latin music. I really prefer music and so this doesn't feel like dancing, just exercising, and therefore isn't as much fun.
Customer Review: Not what I expected !!
I am a fan of salsa music and i thought that this dvd would be fun to try and put in a part of my work outs. The instructor was just wayyyy too much. too loud , too hyper. she came off very corny at times. lol. the video is just dumb. i dont know ,i just found her annoying. The music was good and all but i just cant take her. I dont do this video often. Once in a blue. It really wasnt as good as thought it was gonna be. i have other crunch video but come on now. they need better instructors.
Starting from the beginning, as Georgina pretends to be Sarah and chats with Vanessa at her work the sounds of Good To Be Alive by Joey Sykes fills the cafe. The song fades a little into the background but the tune can still be heard as Dan enters the cafe and meets the two girls. Music follows Georgina all the way to Serena's place where a new tune picks up as she joins the family for dinner. Say (All I Need) by One Republic breaks in and out of the dinner conversation; a conversation where Georgina ends up outing Eric to his entire family.
As Lily prepares for her wedding the perfect clips from Gossip Girl regulars The Kills, and classical music set the mood. While Lily is out and about Cheap and Cheerful by The Kills leads up to the moment that she runs into Rufus. As the two engage in a conversation over Jenny, Beethoven's, Sonata for Violin and Piano, No. 5 in F Major slowly starts to build up. The music gains in volume as Lily tries on her wedding dress and models it for Rufus, who obviously sees something he wants.
Jenny's party requires music and the two songs that we here during this time totally set up the party and the drama that goes down. While Jenny is chatting with her friends and lying about her relationship with Asher Shut Up & Let Me Go by The Ting Tings can be heard playing. Things change up a little when Eric and Blair crash the party to out Asher; Paralyzer by Finger Eleven says it all.
Finally, another selection by The Kills makes its way into another episode. When Serena is surprised to meet Dan's new friend, 'Sarah', U.R. A. Fever by The Kills plays. Later when Serena is confessing to Blair on the stairs the same song comes on again.

Currently there is a Bill on the floor of the Legislation scheduled for March 4 agenda proposed by Senator Constantine that mandates PE for 225 minutes weekly for grades 6 - 8. While the intent of the bill is to make Florida students active and healthy, the bill has major "unintended consequences". Bill S0610 intention is to "recognize good nutrition and regular physical activity affects the health and well-being of students" it has no source of funding for the new physical education classes or funding for the additional nutrition guidelines of the bill. This in effect means that each school board will need cut programs in order to achieve these state mandated guidelines.
By mandating the 225 minutes of physical education a week the opportunity for music education at the grade level of 6 - 8 will be eliminated. The long-standing and well document positive effects of musical education streamlined with core educational framework have been recognized by The U.S. Department of Education. They state, "Many colleges view participation in the arts and music as valuable experience that broadens students' understanding and appreciation of the world around them." In addition, it plays a part in developing "children's intellectual development."
It is documented by College Entrance Examination Board that "students taking courses in music performance and music appreciation scored higher in the SAT than students with no arts participation. Music performance students scored 53 points higher on the verbal and 39 points higher on the math. Music appreciation students scored 61 points higher on the verbal and 42 points higher on the math." (Source: 1999 College-Bound Seniors National Report: Profile of SAT Program Test Takers, The College Entrance Examination Board, Princeton, New Jersey).
The U.S. Secretary of Education concludes, "I believe arts education in music, theater, dance and the visual arts is one of the most creative ways we have to find the gold that is buried just beneath the surface." Even the U.S. Secretary of Education believes that music and arts are valuable in the curriculum. He was quoted as saying "They (children) have an enthusiasm for life, a spark of creativity, and vivid imaginations that need training...training that prepares them to become confident young men and women. As I visit schools around the country I see a renewed interest in arts education and a growing concern about the negative impact of cutting art and music out of curriculum. The creativity of the arts and the joy of music should be central to the education of every American child." (Source: Richard W. Riley, U.S. Secretary of Education
Senator Carlton of the Senate's Committee on Education reported in her newsletter the following statement, "We want to make sure our students have every opportunity to succeed... The important thing is that our students have options." This bill effectively removes all option for participation in music programs.
The central idea of the Bill is something that most will whole heartedly agree with. However, as it is currently worded and un funded, the price tag of the "untended consequences" is too high. Elimination of music has a negative impact that is unacceptable according to the U.S. Department of Education and should be unacceptable to the citizens of Florida. At the time of release Members of the Senate Education Committee, Senator Constantine, Representative Weatherford, and the Governor's Office had not replied back with the option of making a comment on the issue. I urge Floridians to Speak Out and Voice Your Opinion. Don't allow the Florida Legislature make the wrong decision for our students.
Bright blessings,

One of the largest expenses associated with your big day is the wedding reception, but there are ways to cut costs while still creating a fun and festive party for your family and friends.
Now that you're engaged, you've got lots of planning to do. You've set the date and the budget (right?) and now you're finding that the wedding reception is going to take a big chunk out of your budget. Short of signing over your first born and selling your soul to the devil, how will you create a festive atmosphere, feed your guests and still stay within your budget? With a little creativity and the tips below, you can pull off a beautiful wedding reception that's very budget friendly.
- Location, Location, Location
As the saying goes, location is everything. In this case, the location can save you a bundle. Instead of booking the ballroom of an exclusive hotel or other "must-have" location, look for something a little different and unique. You'll be surprised at how many locations are free or very low-cost. Look into gardens, vineyards, museums, church halls, hotel banquet rooms or even the home of a friend or family member. You may also be able to find restaurants in your area that specialize in affordable wedding receptions. When comparing prices, be sure to keep in mind that "free" locations require you to rent chairs, tables and more, so there is some cost involved. Sometimes it turns out to be more budget friendly to rent an inexpensive hall that provides those things for you.
- Limit Your Guest List
It's tempting to invite your 50th cousin twice removed, and it's easy to give in and let family members invite people who said hello to you back in kindergarten, but for the sake of your budget, you must be firm with your guest list. Stick to inviting the people you are truly close to and you'll save hundreds on the cost of food and drink at your wedding reception.
- Let them Eat Cake
Your wedding cake can average $5 per serving and up, easily taking a big bite out of your budget. You may want to consider ordering a small display cake, and also ordering a sheet cake to serve to your guests. It's much more cost effective, and your guests probably won't even think twice about it. And don't forget to ask around. Chances are, you or your fiance have an acquaintance who creates beautiful wedding cakes and charges next to nothing.
- Food
Family members are usually more than happy to help prepare food for your reception. Many foods such as roast beef, ham and lasagna are easy to prepare ahead of time in large quantities. And if you're preparing the food yourself, buying in bulk (wholesale clubs, etc) saves you lots of money. Potlucks are also enjoying a degree of renewed popularity. Ask family members to provide some of the food, and then invite guests to bring a dish in lieu of a gift. Simply slip a note into the invitation altering guests of this option.
- To Drink or not to Drink
Alcohol also raises the cost of your wedding reception. Consider having only limited drinks available. Of course, if you have a morning or early afternoon wedding, alcohol isn't usually necessary. And some venues don't allow alcohol at all, so this point wouldn't even be an issue . Be sure to check on this at the locations you're considering.
- Decorations
With a little creativity (lights, candles, faux plants and trees), anyplace can be transformed into a beautiful reception location. Remember, your guests are there to celebrate with you, not critique the crystal chandeliers (or lack thereof). And there are scores of table decorations you can make yourself that are quite affordable. Don't be shy about family and friends to pitch in on making the decorations and decorating for the reception. Most times, they're more than happy to help.
- Music
Save yourself $1000 or more by foregoing a live band. If you ask around, you probably have a family member, friend, or friend of a friend who does wedding DJ duties (or at least has a killer sound system) and would be willing to take charge of the music - usually for little or no cost. Your guests just want to dance and have fun, and it's not that important to them exactly where the music is coming from
- Something Borrowed...
There are so many details to attend to when planning a wedding reception. Where does the punch bowl come from? What about the silverware? And the coffee pot? If the location does not provide these things for you, and you're not using a caterer, there's nothing wrong with renting these items or borrowing them from friends or family members. There's no need to invest in a punch bowl - unless you think you'll get more use out of it. Besides, you can always buy one down the road when you need it, but do it when you budget isn't so tight. All of these little incidentals really add up, so take advantage of other people's willingness to help.
Don't let your wedding reception bury you under a mountain of debt. With a little resourcefulness and creativity, you can create a beautiful - and affordable - wedding reception filled with memories that will last a lifetime.
