Peter Jackson's adaptation of THE LOVELY BONES is beautifully executed. The movie is so rich in visual metaphor and surreal environments that it is breathtaking. The way the film is shot makes for an amazing play on emotions and tension. This film is almost poetic in the way it is offered. As a Christian, I must emphasize that the film's view of the afterlife is strange and not particularly Biblical. However, the film was so haunting that it has had me thinking of its rich landscape long after it was over. Saoirse Ronan's acting is absolutely top notch. Her portrayal is riveting and beautiful. Great film!

The transfer is fine: It's no better than the earlier DVD edition, but yards ahead of the VHS. Since I've seen this so many times, I chose to listen to the commentary right out of the box. While director Guy Hamilton's comments were insightful, especially about his relationship with Adolf Galland, Bernie Williams(who was the production manager of the aerial unit) was all over the map. Perhaps he's had health problems or something, but he consistently identified Hawker Hurricanes as Spitfires and a Ju-52 as a "Stuka", and also called the Spanish Air Force Heinkel 111's "Messerschmidts". He also misnamed Joseph P Kennedy, Sr. as "Senior Joseph Kennedy"(maybe due to the time spent filming in Spain), as opposed to his correct title of "Bootlegger to the stars". Williams' gaffes were so consistently out there that I was very pleasantly surprised that his comments in the Disc 2 extras "A Film For The Few" and "Authenticity In The Air" were excellent. "A Film For The Few" was great, showing what had to be done to restore many of the aircraft.

Also on Disc 2 was a 1969 featurette "Battle For The Battle Of Britain", hosted by co-star Michael Caine(who was been born in Rotherhithe, an area badly hit by The Blitz), "Recollections Of An RAF Squadron Leader", with ex-Sqdn Ldr (Basil) Gerald Stapleton, an "Authenticity in the Air" featurette, and a gallery of "images From The Sky". We do get to see Air Marshal Keith Park visiting the film set(although why Douglas Bader goes unidentified is odd), and interviews with a number of ex-RAF types, most notably Peter Townsend, ex-equerry to HM The Queen and ex-fiance to Princess Margaret.

I'd give this a solid 4.5 stars, but since Amazon(in its infinite wisdom)only does whole stars, I've no problem nudging it up to 5. The acting's not great, but with this, it's more than that. One other thing is that though it was produced by an American firm, there's no attempt to overplay the US contribution. I love the USA, but the Brits damn near went it alone in those four months of 1940. For that, I give them 9.5 stars!!

One word, "HORRIBLE"! This movie was ANNOYING in more ways than one. I am surprised that Romero created this piece of junk. The storyline is ok but the acting is just unbearable! I actually had to shut if off & continue watching it because a major part of the picture is nothing but YELLING! & i do mean YELLING! This picture got on my nerves & not in a positive way due to the unnecessary yelling. I saw the remake & enjoyed it immensely!! Great remake George but your original version would receive zero stars if permitted. I am a huge George Romero fan & obtain all his movies but this 70's flick is by far the worst film he has ever created. I do not recommend this version of The Crazies but highly recommend the 2010 remake, very well done & full of action. As a long time player and fan, this is a great buy. I bought the CD several years ago, it was primarily recorded in Japan and I think the sound quality is a couple of steps better. This DVD is a French session/gig and has some different songs and many are the same. Unfortunately as I write this I don't have the liner notes and song lists in front of me, so I can't rattle off specifics. It's interesting to see LC using a late 50's Les Paul TV Model. I had one in the mid 70's and believe it or not I traded it for a TEAC 4 track reel to reel tape recorder--Tsk Tsk To have our "cars and guitars" back that we foolishly let slip away. In watching and listening to this DVD you can see the respect and admiration that Lukather has for his mentor Larry Carlton. One thing that stands out is the group's ability to just get in the groove and play, bee-bop, blues, jazz, whatever, no slouches on this stage, they show again and again their ability to make the music do their talking. I am somewhat turned off to the French venue, as I have a bad taste remaining from a rip-off DVD I bought featuring Larry Carlton and Robben Ford playing with a "band of French allstars" at a similar venue. This particular DVD had Larry and Robben on 2-3 songs and a bunch of want-to-bes on the rest, I've heard better. This was a marketing trick as there is another DVD of the two of them together for the whole disc. As they say "Let The Buyer Be-ware". As far as Carlton/Lukather goes, I give it 4 stars because the sound production quality suffers compared to other live DVD's that I have heard.

Just another remake, But for some reason I liked it. Sure there are some details that spoiled it for me so no five stars. I got this in Blu ray on Amazon for $7.99 and free two day shipping, that alone is worth four stars. I try to never give away the plot or add spoilers in my reviews, one exception is nudity, like it or not everyone wants to know if their is any? Nope, not even a boob peaking through a torn shirt. So this ones probably OK for teens, and lots of violence but not much actual gore. To much for under 13. If your a zombie fan, and can just enjoy a movie without having to compare it to another film, I think you might enjoy this, but it dose have the typical Hollywood left wing, it's the governments fault, Lets all hate America! slant. Political opinions hidden in movies is so typical of the EXTREME left wing, I just try to over look them and pity their limited intellect, their little minds are still stuck in college film class, with a professer, want to be, blaming America for his failures, lack of success in making it big in Hollywood. Spewing out self loathing and hate for the country that has given him everything. Tis the pity, for they no not for whom the bell dose toll. But, it is the greatness of this country that they are allowed to carry on in their oblivion, yet they would edit my meager attempt to poke fun at them, With the latest rages, racist, bigot, homophobes. Sticks and stones, they do need to be laugh at! HA! HA! HA! Spoil my movie,will you? Take this.

Wow. If you are a fan of Jeff Beck (and who isn't?)this is a DVD you have to own. I've been a fan of Jeff Beck since the early 60's and because you don't see him very often I had to own this DVD. Jeff Beck is like the father of machine gun guitarists but it isn't so much that he can rip a rift like lightening he is also the very cleanest of guitarists. The man generally doesn't use a guitar pick but you wouldn't know it as every note rings out beautifully and clear. If you like classic rock you have to own this DVD. If you like progressive or fusion rock you have to own this DVD. If you like light jazz (I mean jazz that still carries a melody line)you have got to own this DVD. See the DVD description for the guests he has appearing with him and the track listing because if you've ever been a Jeff Beck fan there is a track just for you. If you are really a Jeff Beck fan there are like 17 tracks just for you. Buy this DVD, there is no way you'll be disappointed.
