Customer Review: Very Simple to Use
Rosetta Stone is very simple to use. However having a Spanish book, or obviously a native speaker to supplement the software would make it much more effective. This is because of being tossed directly into the language without a clear translation leaves the door open for some confusion. Overall a great interactive product that is a strong foundation to start learning a new langauge.
Customer Review: YOU NEED TO KNOW THIS
You cannot legally sell this software when you are done with it. They threatened to sue me when I did - they said I had not bought the software, but a license for the software and it was nontransferrable - that I did not have the right to even GIVE it away.

Spiritual Parenting helps your children to affirm their innate sense of truth.

The core of your child's being is his spirituality.

From here grows his sense of self esteem and the values and morals which bring his sense of belonging.

Spiritual Parenting allows you to nurture your child's spirituality by creating magic through dancing, music and nature, and through sharing feelings and imagination.

Music

Sing together often. Use music cd's, dvd's, instruments, pot lids, the sound of the wind, rain drumming on the roof, your voices, concerts, community events. Sing while you walk, bath, cook, clean and play. Make up songs, create nonsense rhymes and tunes, sing the words of favourite books instead of reading them.

Dance

Dance with your children often - through this glorious experience children learn about the joy of music and movement. Be a mirror to your child through your own sense of delighting in dance.

Imagination

Open your child up to beauty and wonder by endowing the daily routine with peace and magic. Reveal this through loving guidance, through imaginative play and through your words, actions, songs and joy.

Nature

Go out often into nature through the changing seasons. Let your child get wet in puddles, skip together instead of walking, stop often to notice a different smell, make sure that you yourself delight in the marvel of the great outdoors. Learn together the names of plants and trees and delight in each others knowledge. Set up a nature table at home where new discoveries can be invited and encouraged.

Feelings

Teach your children to name their feelings by acknowledging and naming your own. "I'm feeling sad right now. That makes me feel very happy. I feel upset. I feel surprised". "I feel" statements will encourage your children to come up with their own, thus creating a healthy and wholesome sense of self. Ask them often, "How does that make you feel?"

Listen to your child as well as talking with him. This validates not only his sense of self, but allows for the growth of his intuitive self. Really listen for what he is saying and show him that you hear.

Magic

Show your child that life is magical, enchanting, rich and astonishing by creating unexpected pockets of surprise for them. Spiritual parenting helps your child cope well with change in life by giving life a mystical quality instead of a fearful approach. This enables a sense of adventure.

Years later my two eldest children still talk about the time their father woke them up at midnight, and then took them in their pyjamas on a car ride to see the first lights on the village Christmas tree. By creating a magical adventure through his own infectious joy, their father gave them an opportunity to extend their own inner magic through his spiritual parenting approach.

Silence

Don't be afraid to teach them about the beauty of silence. Encourage your young children to enjoy undisturbed quiet moments in your company. Show them by enjoying moments of silence in their presence, sitting quietly with your eyes closed. Teach them the value of walking together without talking. This is how they learn to feel their own inner peace.

Cherishing

Cherish them with physical affection, with words of love, with little gifts of flowers, unusual finds in the garden, written notes and through reading, playing and singing together.

Give them your undivided time and attention when you are walking with them, encouraging them to talk about their day, their friends, their hopes and dreams and encourage, encourage, encourage.

Bedtime

Create bedtime rituals that focus on the special nature of each of your children. Settle them into sleep feeling nourished, cherished and special. Try telling them "I love you today because..." and add a new reason for every night. Spiritual parenting in this way is a calm, child centred approach.

If ballroom dancing is a past time of yours that you enjoy but you suffer from a verruca, then you will understand the importance of wearing the right shoes. However, even though the right footwear is worn on the feet it is still no guarantee there will be no discomfort. Treatment is needed so that you may continue in upping your performance on the dance floor like that of Mr Gene Kelly. If your dancing has been put on hold because of this problem, then speak with your doctor for advice on how to ease the discomfort so that you can dance again.

A verruca (plantar wart) is a type of wart found on the lower limb (sole of the foot). It is no different to that of a common wart as we know them - but because of the body weight pressing down onto the verruca it then becomes painful and sore. The appearance of this foot wart - is slightly raised and round with a thickened edge of surrounding skin. Other signs and strong points to look out for - to decipher this type of verruca is that of fine tiny black dots. It is not uncommon to find a cluster of them to appear all together.

A mound/clump or clusters of small warts are referred to as 'mosaic warts' - these you will be happy to hear are usually painless. If you are a concerned parent and worried about the children developing warts then do not worry because, this type of verruca in minors - tend to appear and then disappear. I don`t want to burst any ones bubble but warts on adults can persist for a long time (years) if left unattended (not treated).
Just like other warts, a verruca can stem from the strains of the papillomavirus.

Do not be alarmed but papillomavirus is present in huge amounts on a vast majority of different humans which is carried on the surface of their skin. This will not cause any harm or cause problems unless it pierces the skin. Unhealthy and neglected skin e.g. skin with fine cracks on the surface may well be the likely place for this to happen.

There is no real proven guarantee that a verruca is picked up in swimming pools as a great many people are led to believe. In saying that, there is without a doubt plenty of papillomavirus around swimming pools etc, particularly so in the shower area. Remember you are very unlikely to get a verruca if your skin is without flaws. A good idea to minimize any risk if this is a big worry for you is, to consider wearing flip-flops or open sandals in the shower.

If those dancing shoes are left on the shelf for to long - you may just forget how to tango or rumba. Some good advice is to pop along to the doctor so that he/she can check you over. Try not swap shoes.

While watching Monday night football, on an uneventful evening on December 8, 1980, I was nursing a hangover, when I heard Howard Cosell interrupt the game with a news flash. John Lennon was shot in New York City? Could that be true? It was true. Later, he was pronounced dead. I was in shock. Then my brother, Mark, telephoned me with the news. We both were John Lennon fans.

The Beatles, the fab four of the 60s, were each given character descriptions or nicknames adopted by their fans. John was the smart one, Paul was the cute one, George was the mysterious one and Ringo was the funny one.

I always felt John Lennon's character description or nickname, should have been dubbed the "misunderstood Beatle," because he seemed to always stir up controversy concerning his beliefs. He couldn't quite make his comments clear, and the media didn't help.

Take for instance, the comment he made on March 4, 1966, when he said, "the Beatles are more popular than Jesus." What he meant was that more people would go see the Beatles, than go to church on Sunday. Which may have been true. He generalized a wee bit by laying the blame on America, when he meant England.

Lennon was interviewed for the London Evening Standard by Maureen Cleave, who was a friend, and made an off-the-cuff remark regarding religion. Lennon said, "Christianity, will go. It will vanish and shrink. We're more popular than Jesus now; I don't know which will go first-- rock and roll or Christianity. Jesus was all right but his disciples were thick and ordinary. It's them twisting it that ruins it for me."

On August 11, 1966, The Beatles held a press conference in Chicago, in order to address the growing furor.

Lennon: I suppose if I had said television was more popular than Jesus, I would have got away with it, but I just happened to be talking to a journalist friend (Maureen Cleave), and I used the word "Beatles" as a remote thing, not as what I think--as Beatles, as those other Beatles, like other people see us. I just said they are having more influence on kids and things than anything else, including Jesus. But I said it in that way, which is the wrong way."

Reporter: Some teenagers have repeated your statements--"I like The Beatles more than Jesus Christ." What do you think about that?

Lennon: Well, originally I pointed out that fact in reference to England. that we meant more to kids than Jesus did, or religion at that time. I wasn't knocking it or putting it down. I was just saying it as a fact, and it's true more for England than here. I'm not saying that we're better or greater, or comparing us with Jesus Christ as a person or God as a thing, or whatever it is. I just said what I said and it was wrong. Or it was taken wrong. And now it's all this.

Reporter: But are you prepared to apologize?

Lennon: I wasn't saying whatever they're saying I was saying. I'm sorry I said it really. I never meant it to be a lousy anti-religious thing. I apologize if that will make you happy. I still don't know quite what I've done. I've tried to tell you what I did do, but if you want me to apologize, if that will make you happy, then OK, I'm sorry.

John Lennon returned to the subject later that year, when he told Look magazine that, "I believe Jesus was right, Buddha was right, and all of those people like that are right. They're all saying the same thing--and I believe it. I believe what Jesus actually said--the basic things he laid down about love and goodness--and not what people say he said. If Jesus being more popular means more control, I don't want that. I'd sooner they'd all follow us even if it's just to dance and sing for the rest of their lives. If they took more interest in what Jesus--or any of them--said, if they did that, we'd all be there with them.

Although there was little reaction to his statement in England, Christians elsewhere embarked upon a massive campaign to destroy Beatle albums and other paraphernalia. The Archbishop of Boston admitted that he was probably right, but many still refused to forgive him.

I can relate to his controversial statement, because I have made similar statements, such as, when I drive by a gambling casino on a Sunday, I'll say--"look at all those cars--try to pack them in a church parking lot." Of course, my meaning was that gambling is more popular than Jesus. I hope that isn't the truth--here in America. Am I in trouble for saying that?

All this didn't bother Lennon, he continued using religious remarks in his songs, one was God, released in 1971. The lyrics are as follows:

God (words and music by John Lennon)

God is a concept

By which we measure

Our pain

I'll say it again

God is a concept

By which we measure

Our Pain

I don't believe in magic

I don't believe in I-ching

I don't believe in bible

I don't believe in tarot

I don't believe in Hitler

I don't believe in Jesus

I don't believe in Kennedy

I don't believe in Buddha

I don't believe in mantra

I don't believe in Gita

I don't believe in yoga

I don't believe in kings

I don't believe in Elvis

I don't believe in Zimmerman

I don't believe in Beatles

I just believe in me

Yoko and me

And that's reality

The dream is over

What can I say?

The dream is over

Yesterday

I was a dream weaver

But now I'm reborn

I was the walrus

But now I'm John

And so dear friends

You just have to carry on

The dream is over

THE END

Once again, Lennon was misunderstood. He was put off by many Christians. I always understood the style of Lennon. I felt he was reaching out to question things we dared not ask. He was a buffer between reality and make believe. Some considered it threatening. I considered it harmless. Although he did say "I don't believe in Jesus." And he did say, "I don't believe in bible." Maybe he should have left them out of the song, at least to avoid controversy and save his career.. But, Lennon was Lennon, and he didn't care. He was saying he has the freedom to say what he wants to say, or sing what he wants to sing. I'm sure it hurt his career. Paul McCartney's career only blossomed. Not intending to leave out George and Ringo. Their careers remained stable.

I always thought a more fitting song for John Lennon would have been--Don't Let Me Be Misunderstood, written and performed by a fellow musician and friend, Eric Burdon. He, also, authored a book under the same title.

In 1973, Lennon wrote and sang the song, Imagine, a very critical-- but popular song. It questioned the existence of heaven and hell and no religion, too. This, too, was angered by Christians. His message was clear to me. He was simply stating, if there wasn't any of these things he's imagining, the world would live in peace--as one. What would there be to fight about? There would be no wars. Many wars are about religion. The song is all about imagination. He's not a terrorist wanting to blow up the world. The lyrics are as follows:

Imagine

(words and music by John Lennon)

Imagine there's no heaven

It's easy if you try

No hell below us

Above us only sky

Imagine all the people

Living for today

Imagine there's no countries

It isn't hard to do

Nothing to kill or die for

And no religion too

Imagine all the people

Living life in peace

You may say I'm a dreamer

But I'm not the only one

I hope someday you'll join us

And the world will be as one

Imagine no possessions

I wonder if you can

No need for greed or hunger

A brotherhood of man

Imagine all the people

Sharing all the world

You may say I'm a dreamer

But I'm not the only one

I hope someday you'll join us

And the world will live as one

THE END

Lennon was always the outspoken one. Some say he was a hypocrite when he preached about love and peace--not war. In 1969, he demonstrated his beliefs in his penned song, Give Peace A Chance, after his departure from The Beatles, during his solo career.

He defended many rights and causes. He was an anti-war activist. His beliefs were misconstrued and often he was taken as a socialist or communist. President Nixon wanted him deported. Lennon stood up and fought for his right to stay where he loved to be--in New York City, U.S.A. Sadly enough, it was also the place he was killed by a deranged fan.

During his solo career, Lennon wrote and sang songs of rebellion with his political views. He would socialize with antiwar leaders, such as, Jerry Rubin, Abbie Hoffman, and others. Lennon and his friends organized a concert in Ann Arbor, Michigan, in December of 1971, dubbed the "Free John Sinclair" concert. Sinclair was a local antiwar activist who was serving ten years in the state prison for selling two joints of marijuana to an undercover cop. Lennon appeared onstage along with Phil Ochs, Stevie Wonder and other musicians, plus antiwar radical Jerry Rubin and Bobby Seale of the Black Panthers. There was 20,000 in attendance; two days after the concert, the state of Michigan released John Sinclair from prison. During this time, a song written and sung by Lennon was released, entitled John Sinclair.

In 1972, Lennon released an anti-sexism song, entitled, Woman Is The Nigger of the World, implying that as black people were discriminated against in some countries, so were women globally. The lyrics are as follows:

Woman Is The Nigger of the World

(words and music by John Lennon)

Woman is the nigger of the world

Yes she is...think about it

Woman is the nigger of the world

Think about it...do something about it

We make her paint her face and dance

If she won't be a slave, we say that she don't love us

If she's real, we say she's trying to be a man

While putting her down, we pretend that she's above us

Woman is the nigger of the world...yes she is

If you don't believe me, take a look at the one you're with

Woman is the slave of the slaves

Ah, yeah...better scream about it

We make her bear and raise our children

And then we leave her flat for being a fat old mother hen

We tell her home is the only place she should be

Then we complain that she's too unworldly to be our friend

Woman is the nigger of the world...yes she is

If you don't believe me, take a look at the one you're with

Woman is the slave to the slaves

Yeah...alright...hit it!

We insult her every day on TV

And wonder why she has no guts or confidence

When she's young we kill her will to be free

While telling her not to be so smart we put her down for being so dumb

Woman is the nigger of the world

Yes she is...if you don't believe me, take a look at the one you're with

Woman is the slave to the slaves

Yes she is...if you don't believe me, you better scream about it

We make her paint her face and dance

We make her paint her face and dance

We make her paint her face and dance

We make her paint her face and dance

We make her paint her face and dance

We make her paint her face and dance

THE END

On a happier note, in 1971, Lennon, also, wrote and sang the song, entitled, Happy Xmas. This became a holiday favorite. It's questionable why he left out Christ in Christmas. But "X" is the Greek symbol of Christ.

This year marks the 26th anniversary of the death of John Lennon. His killer is still imprisoned, as he should be. The music world was robbed of this musical genius. I sure miss his works and imagination. If it weren't for his outspoken beliefs, he may have still been with us today. It may have been what killed him. But just imagine (I wonder if you can)--then there never would have been a John Lennon.

Diez Deditos and Other Play Rhymes and Action Songs from Latin America

Singer-songwriter José-Luis Orozco has assembled a collection of finger rhymes and other action songs from Latin America. Including favorites such as "The Wheels on the Bus" as well as folk songs from a variety of Spanish-speaking countries, Diez Deditos is a treat for the eyes, ears, and fingers. Lyrics are presented in both English and Spanish, and easy-to-follow musical accompaniment and diagrams for the corresponding actions are also provided. As in the companion volume De Colores, bright collage illustrations by Elisa Kleven complete the appeal of this fun-filled book.
Customer Review: Great Songs!
I teach preschool and the kids love these songs! I really like that each song has hand gestures to do along which keeps the kids engaged on the song. I also ordered the CD soundtrack which makes it easier for me to memorize songs and the kids love to sing along with it.
Customer Review: high quality music comes from our roots
I have used this CD for about 7 years as part of my prekinder bilingual curriculum, and it has been very successful with my students. Also, I know it is quality children's folk music because I have studied in detail children's folk music from Mexico, and most of these selections are easily validated as original folk music. You can be sure they are not contrived at all by adults for children. I recommend the book that goest with it, too.

The music is such a great part of any wedding reception. After the seriousness of the ceremony, it is fun to get everyone out on the dance floor and get the party going. The type of music that you choose will set the mood for the reception, and so the question is, should you choose a d.j. or a band?

The answer will depend in several factors, including your budget, the formality of your wedding, and the type of music that you like. Usually a d.j. is less expensive than a band (although sometimes you can find affordable live music by hiring students from a music college.) If you love the big band sound, then a nine piece combo would be a great choice. Couples who want to dance the night away to the latest hits would be better off finding a great d.j. And if you like both, then consider hiring a band for the beginning of the reception and then have a d.j. take over for late night fun.

The setting and formality of your wedding should also be considered when deciding on music. If you are hosting an informal afternoon outdoor wedding, you would choose something entirely different than for a black tie wedding in an opulent ballroom. It makes sense that a more relaxed wedding should have less traditional music. For instance, a bride who is going to be wed barefoot wearing a cotton dress and unique keshi pearl handcrafted bridal jewelry might consider a folksy sort of band. The bride in the full satin ball gown with elaborate Swarovski crystal handcrafted bridal jewelry will find that a more traditional orchestra playing the standards is more appropriate for her reception.

One good reason to choose a d.j. instead of a band is for the variety of songs that they can play. If you want to hear a mix of music styles that will appeal to guests of all ages, a d.j. can deliver that. It is very important to give your d.j. a list of songs that you definitely want him to play (especially the song for your first dance), and a list of songs that is forbidden. Be very clear on where you stand on the Electric Slide and the Chicken Dance!

It is the job of the bandleader or d.j. to introduce the newlyweds when they enter the reception for the first time. One thing to decide before hiring musicians is whether you want them to say anything more than that. Do you like the type of d.j. who keeps up a witty patter throughout the evening, or do you prefer your musicians to play the music but not to speak? Make sure to make your preference known when you are auditioning d.j.s or bands.

Speaking of the audition, it is very important that you hear the band or d.j. before signing a contract. It is usually possible to poke your head into another event that they are playing before you make your choice. You might think that this is not a big deal for a d.j., but you want to be certain that his style matches yours. Also, it may give you an opportunity to check out the sound of his equipment. I once attended a wedding where the d.j.'s speakers sounded just awful. Luckily, there were two bars set up at that reception, so the guests were sufficiently cheerful that the sound quality did not bring the evening down!

In contrast to poor sound, a really great band will make your reception even more fun and memorable. Another wedding that I went to had a really talented and versatile band that could play everything from swing to the hora to the theme song from The Simpsons (the couple made their entrance to that music!). Not only could they handle a wide variety of styles, but they played them all extremely well. It added a lot to the evening. If you have certain special requests of the band, as this couple did, it is important to find a band that is up to the challenge. It would not do, for instance, to have a Jewish wedding reception without a really great version of the hora dance.

Sometimes there are other reasons why a bride and groom will decide in favor of a band or a d.j. For example, I have always thought that people in very formal clothing looked a bit silly dancing to songs like The Macarena, so I chose a band that played the classics like Frank Sinatra and Cole Porter. Another couple, though, may love exuberant music, and so a d.j. would be the perfect option for their wedding. It all comes down to the personal preference of the bride and groom, and what tone they want for their reception.

Joseph Arthur Live At the Gypsy Tea Room

Recorded on tour in support of the brilliant studio recording, Come To Where I'm From, Live At The Gypsy Tea Room presents a sonic glimpse of the amazing multi-layered richness of a Joseph Arthur solo performance.Ten-minute versions of "Big City Secrets" and "Prison" show Arthur building, via tape loops recorded on the spot, a continuous musical bed of processed beats, guitar and vocals, over which he can play and sing the melodies of his darkly introspective songs. The sparse arrangements, however, of "Exhausted" and "In The Sun" performed here with only raw voice and guitar prove that the power of Arthur's performance does not rely on technology alone, but is founded on penetrating lyrics sung with wracked emotional intensity.Contents: 1) History 2) Big City Secrets 3) Exhausted 4) Invisible Hands 5) I Donated Myself To The Mexican Army 6) In The Scan 7) Prison
